If you want a B&B which is a little different from the rest, stay here. It is a wonderful eclectic mix of old and contemporary and our lovely hosts could not do enough for us. it is a few minutes walk from the centre of Ghent. We would definitely stay here again during one of our Belgian trips back to the Zeebrugger Ferry.

It doesn't get more authentic than Verhaegen! The host is friendly, thoughtful and helpful. I appreciate him taking the time to share memorable details about the place. Next time I visit Ghent I'll definitely choose this place again. Too often one ends up in a Mercure, Novotel, Hilton or other airport hotel... Verhaegen is nothing like that at all. Fortunately! Ook namens m'n zoon: bedankt Peter!

You'll remember this place. It is a wonderful old building shared with a design company and the whole place is full of magic, including a beautiful courtyard garden.
Your host, Peter, is effusive and friendly with good knowledge of Ghent - especially the restaurants.
As an ancient monument there are no lifts - Peter is the luggage lifter, if needed.
The place is quiet at night and breakfast is a great experience in the wonderful dining room.
If only life was always this civilised.

Room tip: Heavy luggage and top floor rooms may not be a great combination

When I read a 1 or 2* revive of a place I particularly like, it usually seems to me that the reviewer is at fault by their attitude to the staff and then get upset when the staff don't react well.

This 5 room 17 the century.hotel is owned by a gay couple,Jan and Mark, who run their interior design business from two rooms on the ground floor. The public areas are full of tasteful objects, cluttered but aesthetically pleasing. The bedrooms are decorated with the owners attention to detail. The breakfast is replete and beautifully served by Peter, the manager who learnt his now idiosyncratic English from watching 1940's movies.who's completely charming and utterly willing to oblige.

We reckon we've stayed here 4 or 5 times over the last ten years, as we make our way to or from further flung Europen destinations, and we'll continue to do so whenever the opportunity arises.

Room tip: They're all beautiful and individual.

A superb accommodation experience on the outskirt of Ghents Historical centre. A memorable experience, one we could not fault. Easily accessible by car (parking close by at an additional cost), an easy 5-6 minute walk into town, warm welcome, beautifully appointed room, personalised breakfasts (at additional cost) and fantastic restaurant recommendations. Highly recommend.
