Review of Origens

Origens
Ranked #18 of 290 Restaurants in Evora
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$29 - US$54
Description: The restaurant Origins aims to promote essentially the products of the Alentejo region, a careful and contemporary presentation. We want to take our guests on a journey to the origins ... Earth Origins where we were born, origins of flavor, freshness origins, origins of the products. A culinary journey, marked by quality and refinement that the Alentejo has to offer. The wine is also an important part of Origens Restaurant. The region is rich in wine, recieving severals awards world wide. So it make sence to us to promote our wine with our food.

If I lived in Evora I would eat here as often as possible! My husband and I shared 3 plates that were all delicious! We had 3 starters because we are part of a tour and short on time. We had the fig and prosciutto dish, sardines on a slice of toasted bread, and a traditional pork dish with egg, onion and potato chips. We had a local red wine, recommended by one of the owners, Genny, which paired very well with our food. Their Michelin rating is well deserved. I wish we had more time to try more dishes there. SO good!!!!

Great local food and wine selection, creative and beautifully served dishes. You do not want to miss the 'hog neck' dish.

Of course this is a bit more expensive ... however... 3 starters - 1 plate - one bottle of excellent wine for less than 70€... for the 2 of us?
No, this was top. We’ve been there on Sep 6. Original plates, everything we tried was excellent. Friendly service (however, they were 4 or 5 to serve 25 persons... a bit too...). Even the chef (not the cook, sorry again ;-) came by for some small talk. Well appreciated !!! and he offered a glass of his dessert wines.
The excellent red wine we took was ‘dois terroirs tinto 2014’

Absolutely wonderful food! The chef personally came to our table to make sure we enjoyed our dinners. Everyone working there was warm and welcoming. We had a fantastic meal and a wonderful dining experience. Definitely enjoy a meal here!

Lovely new age style with a young staff. They suggested sharing the plates so we has regional mushrooms in herbs as entree, followed by wild boar then beef . Was very good. Nice local (Alentejo) wine also and then I had two glasses of local red both also great. Dessert was called “Trust the Chef”. Was good - light carrot cake with berry frozen yoghurt. We were more than satisfied with these dishes and we have good appetites. (Noted others comments about small portion sizes).
