We were here at high season in July. So 80 € per night might sound OK for a little appartment with kitchenette. I didn`t think it is justified. The whole appartment complex is build into a slope, so the living room doesn't have windows. In fact, the whole place (living and sleeping room) has only windows and natural light through the terrace doors. Since we were located rigth at the entrance, we felt a little exposed. There is no Air condition, no ventilation. Mosquitoes were all over us during the night. We asked for a ventilator, but the owner wouldn't give us one. In Lagos it is never hot! he said.....very relative I think.....There is an equipped kitchen, true. But the knifes do barely cut, the whole furniture and equipment is worn and old. The shower had a leak which the owner repaired reluctantly with silicon. The WLAN connection only works sometimes, and most of the time you have to go outside to connect. I would not recommend it!

caracois, Owner at Quinta dos Caracois, responded to this reviewResponded 26 July 2016

At Quinta dos Caracois we were very disappointed when we do not correspond the expectations of our customers. However I would say that the apartment corresponds exactly to what was booked, all divisions of the apartment have natural light, the bedroom has a door 1.20 m wide by 2 meters tall in the lounge has two more doors with 1m wide by 2 meters tall, the bathroom has tilting window.
The apartments are south facing, meaning that the sun hits the front, but we have all the doors with film to sunlight, black out curtains, double glazing, insulated walls acoustic and thermal. When the sun hits the front, in the morning, if the doors are completly open, course that the sun comes in and heats the whole apartment, all this was explained at check in.
Where the apartment was booked says that we do not have air conditioning.
Where the apartment was booked says "Free Wi-Fi access is available in public areas and costs!. Free."
The shower has a leak of a drop of water in the protection, that was repaired with silicone in 10 seconds.
Perhaps it was by forgetting that it was not mentioned that there were breakages in the apartment and was not charged anything.

This is the second time we have stayed with Luis at Qunita dos Caracois - both times in Apartment No.7 by the lovely pool. The apartment is big, spotlessly clean and very well equipped with hob, oven, fridge/freezer and washing machine. We were welcomed back as old friends by the owner / manager who took great pains to ensure our comfort. We visited in January when the nights can be quite cool in the Algave but the apartment had a heater which kept the evening chill at bay.
You really do need a car as the property is a little way outside of Lagos and the access road up to the apartments is very steep, as others have mentioned but should not be beyond the capabilities of a competent driver however you may struggle with a bigger car than our Punto as turning space is a bit tight. The wi-fi is a bit patchy and slow but we got a reasonable signal just outside our apartment. The new road is now open down below the property on the N125 but noise levels haven't increased significantly but access to Lagos and the Avenieda and Marina areas is much improved. All in all a nice, safe, comfortable place to stay. We will certainly visit again.

I went there with my girlfriend last year and I had very good experience, so quiet and chilling place. The receptionist was helpfull despite my portuguese. The wifi signal wasa bit weak. If I come back Lagos I´ll repeat!

The Quinta dos Caracois is a series of six or so self catering apartments around 50 sq.m in size, set into a hillside about 3.5 to 4 km west of Lagos. The location is accessible to Lagos on foot but that's about a 45 minute walk along the back roads to the centre of town. We had a car so Lagos was only 10 minutes away.

The apartment we stayed in was modern, fully furnished and had a washing machine, fridge freezer, oven, crockery, you name it. Basically, everything. It also had cable/satellite TV to keep up with the news.

The welcome we got when we arrived was very warm and hospitable and everything was in order when we arrived. Other reviews have mentioned the furniture, but, I can assure you, the furniture is fine and the place is nicely decorated and spotlessly clean.

Other than that, it's a nice base to use for going to Lagos or Luz or the locality. It's pretty quiet and the pool is a great place to relax while the sun is beating down.

The apartments are not near shops, so you will very probably need a car to haul your groceries back to the apartment.

The only thing that really needs fixing is wifi which, as mentioned elsewhere, is really only available by the pool. This is a pity as wifi is so cheap and relatively easy that for a modest investment, you could have an access point in every building and five bar signal everywhere for not much money.

With super wifi, this would be a great place to stay; as it is, it takes the gloss off an otherwise interesting and pleasant place to stay.
