This is a big hotel done well. The amenities are terrific: an infinity pool overlooking the harbor, an indoor pool and Jacuzzi, and a sauna and Turkish bath. The breakfast was delicious with fresh cut fruit, ham and cheese, coffee, and eggs cooked in every variation. Very good! The rooms have generous balconies accessed through French doors, providing an inviting private spot to chill before dinner or to watch the sun come up over Pico Island.

I am not a fan of chain hotels or hotels that have been over-designed with local themes. Faial is a gem with the old-world charm and style of a quality and affordable place to stay on an island.

Only thing that wasn't so great: you can hear people talking in the rooms next door. I didn't have noisy neighbours, but if I did, it would probably have been a problem.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the infinity pool and you will get a great view of Pico Island

Hotel was peaceful and clean. Very near the marina yet in a quiet location. Yes, the hotel has a dated look, but that’s it’s appeal. Charming, friendly and oh so peaceful. Lovely setting. Would love to return one day!

We had booked for 4 nights at the Pousada Forte which is on the seafront & supposed to be 4 star. It was awful on so many counts we checked out after the first night & came along to the Azoris Faial Garden Hotel - not only is this hotel a lot less expensive, it has large, bright rooms & large bathrooms, everything spotless.

As it was the peak season, they didn't have a sea view room but we were offered a room in one of the adjacent buildings in the lawned grounds.

Other reviewers are exactly right when they say this hotel is a bit dated... Yes, it is & you can see that from the photos. The floral bedroom decor is out of the 80s (but the bed linen was clean & fresh) & you think you have stepped back in time in the common areas... However, you won't find a newly built hotel on Faial island.

On the plus side, this hotel has very helpful staff with plenty of attentive people on reception. The breakfasts were also really good, with plenty of fresh fruit, home made jams, a decent selection of breads, home made cakes & hot food, which was all replenished.

We didn't try dinner whilst staying, in part because I didn't want to sit in that large dining room with its dated peach tablecloths.

It's situated up a slight hill but you can easily walk down to the harbour.

One of the evenings, we came back from a stroll to find an Azorean dancing group performing in the dining room, which was really quite charming.

Although a charming hotel with a very helpful and friendly staff, there were some deficiencies - rather hard mattresses and two of ours slanted toward the floor on one side; our rooms could have been a tad cleaner as there were squashed bugs on our ceiling and a cocoon in the upper area of our shower (might have been a spider's cache!) Also, the knob on our door to the balcony would not stay on. On the plus side, we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant; very tasty dinner the first night, and the breakfast buffet was the best we experienced. Great view from the dining room windows. The infinity pool was lovely and we made use of it and the surrounding lounging area and poolside bar a couple of times during our stay. The view of Pico was beautiful. We did like the location of the hotel being that it was not in a congested area and was a short walk to the town center. In summary, we did really enjoy our stay here and would not hesitate to recommend it to future travelers.

A nice looking hotel in well kept mature gardens and only a short walk down into Horta where the Marina, bars and restaurants can be found. (longer walk back as it is then uphill)
The restaurant has perfect views across to Pico island, have an early breakfast and watch dawn break over Mt. Pico. There is a good varied selection on offer at breakfast, no excuse to leave still hungry. The same applies to dinner, we had the buffet every night of our stay, and it could not be faulted, an all La carte menu is available.
All the staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient making our stay a pleasant experience.
We stayed in a room looking over the gardens, the room was clean and tidy, the bed comfortable and plenty of hot water. As a resort hotel there are villas available which all looked very presentable.
We did not try out the infinity pool nor the smallish gym but both looked fine.
Overall a good comfortable hotel which should meet all your needs for a stay in Horta.
