I am not sure of all the glorious review of this hotel, but our stay over the Xmas/New Year holiday 16 was awful. I booked this hotel based on various reviews online and the hotel site, but obviously the pictures are very deceiving. As we walked in, I was not impressed with anything about the hotel. The front desk people were nice and checked us in, but once we got to our room, it was not what we expected. We had booked a deluxe room. The hallways smelled terrible. You could smell the bathrooms, dirty carpets. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. We had a hard time sleeping. The bathroom had mold growing around the tub. Towels were old to the point where you could see the stitches coming off and ripped. Toilet wouldn't flush properly. Worst part, we came from dinner late at night and both were tired.....in the dark, we did not inspect the sheets and in the morning, my partner discovered blood on the pillow he was resting. I called the front desk. They did not even apologize. Simply said they will replace the pillow for us. The food/breakfast buffet is of low quality and a bunch of greasy food they serve. The food service was terrible from staff. You have to flag someone to get you coffee or anything else.

This is probably the worst hotel in Lisbon. We left after two days of staying here and moved to a hotel downtown. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The hotel is in major need of renovation and upgrade. Don't waste your money.

Staff extremely attentive and dedicated: we were offered a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolates upon arrival, and received extremely careful service all stay long. A truly gorgeous place with a magnificent garden

We selected this Hotel for location and historical significance the staff were excellent and attentive registration was easy and a good experience, overall the location and courtesy was what we have come to expect from the Pestana. On the other hand the menu was expensive and not up to standard it was clear that the chef and sommelier didn't co ordinate and some excellent ingredients were ruined by over cooking.. the room was good but the beds were hard and the pillows were of a type last manufactured in the 1930's so we had a sleepless night. The management seemed to be aware of the problem but awareness doesn't solve the problem.

Lovely hotel, with rooms in a modern wing attached to a 19th century palace. Gardens in the middle are an oasis of calm. Room was large and comfortable, with pleasant decor though I was mildly amused at all the Russian style and wintry artwork throughout the hotel. Bathroom is a little old fashioned with the shower being a weak point- it was a bit feeble. Bed was firm but I like it this way and I slept well. Lots of space in room. Fitness centre seemed small but wasn't much used by other guests, even at what I thought would be the busiest time. Pools looked good but sadly I didn't have the chance to enjoy.

Breakfast was a highlight- choices were excellent and changed every day. Only fish choice was smoked salmon though. Other meals in my corporate package were also very good with enormous variety and the olive bread was amazing. Staff were all very helpful.

Hotel is a bit out of the city- taxi took about 30 minutes but was cheap. Views are good though.

Only downer related to water in the room - only drinking water available was €2.50 from the mini bar. I think this is unacceptable for a hotel of this standard, especially as it's in a country where tap water is not safe to drink.

I would come back here on a holiday....

Some aspect (location and restaurant) were spectacular, but the room was too hot and the cleaning people entered the room while I was in (twice). For a 5 star hotel this is not acceptable according to me
