Praia Formosa it's a small & beautiful beech, there are a lots of Restaurants,Safeguard, there is one WC...but the sand is very dirty with cigarettes and other garbages...we went many times and it's always like this I think they should clean it.

We walked from Funchal (near Reid's) to Camara de lobos - a good walk and the tunnel was fun; but this pebble beach was not the best part. Hard to walk on.

The walk between Funchal and Camara dos Lobos is an interesting and attractive walk. But you need to be prepared for hazards.

The tunnel on the East side of the Praia Formosa might be locked. If it is, then you have to walk up the hill and find a way back down to the beach further on.

The elevated walkway at the West end of the beach is great, unless it is shut due to storm damage,

We had some challenges, but it was nevertheless an interesting walk, with a welcome beer at the end.

We started this walk from Lido to Camara de Lobos but gave up for two reasons. First, we discovered that as a result of storm damage parts of the walk are cut off and you have to walk around because the path is dangerous. Apparently (though we did not get that far) you have to go on the road from a bit past Praia Fomosa - adding significantly to the distance.
Our second reason for not continuing was simply because it was not a pleasant walk. Too much concrete around for our liking.

We are currently staying near the Forum Shopping Centre and decided to walk to Camera de Lobos a few days ago.We walked in sandals and so Praia Formosa with the pebbles, rocks and grey sand was rather uncomfortable in places - next time we will wear walking shoes.
We came to the barriers put up on the boardwalk warning walkers not to go any further and we chose to turn back but many didn’t , they simply climbed over and proceeded on their way . Can anyone tell us if it is actually safe to continue the walk using this route or is it better to avoid the beach and carry on walking along the road ,the continuation of Avenida Monumental.

There are a handful of cafes/restaurants along the beach - does anyone have any recommendations for an inexpensive lunch.

Thanks in advance.

Peter
