“You do not need to be religious to visit”

Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Piedade
Reviewed 12 June 2018

We always feel that whatever your religion, or none at all, there is always something to admire and inspire on a visit to a church or cathedral.
This small, but beautiful church is an excellent example. Dating back to the end of the 15th century it features a number of interesting altars and paintings.
Very tranquil, but quite dark inside, especially when entering out of the sunlight - be careful of tripping.
Free admission, and seems to be open most days.

A lovely little church, garlanded with paper flowers in late August/ early September. It is a peaceful place to visit and worship.

This church is one of very few on the island and has a lot of history attached to it.
Currently missing the dicisiples from the last supper which are under renovation the church is made up of 5 distinct chapels all decorated in their own way.
The paving outside is a photo in its own right!
A Must See, even for those with no faith.
Free Entry and easy access for those not so mobile.

Visited here on a Sunday, probably the best day to visit , as beware, opening times are limited, we originally went Friday mid day but found it to be closed, we were informed by the museum next door that due to thefts from the church it only tended to open about 1 hour a day now,
What a sad world we live in!!!
