We took the funicular up simply because we had spent a long day walking around and were tired. The view is nice but I wouldn't go out of my way to take this just for the sake of the view, there are lots better places to get great views of the bridge and Ribeira. Having said that it was only 2.50 Euros and was a quick ride to the top and saved us a lot of walking!

Recently utilised after visiting Churchill's. This is a Must when in Porto as gives you amazing views when travelling up from the River side. It's also convenient as the hills / steps are quite tiresome so using this mode of transport definitely a good way to travel.
Priced at only 2 Euro 50 Cents so good value.

This is a great way to travel from end of the high bridge across the Douro River down to the street level of Vila Nova de Gaia. Walking across the higher bridge (shared with the metro) offers a wonderful view of the Porto riverfront, and in Vila Nova de Gaia you have all the wine cellars for Port wine, so the full circuit is perfect. The Gondola is spacious, safe and a fun ride without being scary for anyone excepting those with a fear of heights. It does not rock. At the beginning someone snaps a photo and at the end it is waiting for you in a frame with highlights of the area. It can be a nice souvenir. Everyone I have taken on the ride ends up buying it! To return I always walk across the lower bridge that has the cars on it. The sidewalk is narrow, but if you are closer to the water and get a different perspective of the river fronts on both sides. Well worth it!

After leaving Taylor=s Port lodge, we made it as far as the bridge before the heavens properly opened.

This saved us getting wet and dropped us off close to the metro at the top of the hill.

It's efficient, quick, clean and a quick fun ride.

My wife had undertaken a lot of walking so it was a relief to hop onto the Funicular down near the Dom Luis Bridge and take the ride back to the top near Batalhas again. The views of the Douro are spectacular going up and for the price of a few euros it is well worth the investment.
