Highly recommend a visit to this bridge. Not only does it take you to the other side of the river (where all the good port wine is!) but it also provides incredible views. Just be prepared for a steep walk to the top of the bridge or paying for the gondola.

The Ponte de Dom Luis is a lovely bridge connecting both sides of the Douro river. It is a very nice walk between the two sides of the river.

Beautiful destination. Tough to find. Not the bridge. The second level walking and tram level. All the mapping functions seem to point to the lower level auto and walking level. To hit the top level you need to walk uphill from the in town train station. Same on the Villa side. Take the gondola up from the river level. A bit of a hassle, but totally worth the edfort

One of the mesmerizing and confusing aspects of Porto is to see the remnants of centuries of history, preserved elegance, and stunning renovations -- peppered with abandoned building and graffiti. The moment you see the view from the bridge you can immediately understand why this spectacularly beautiful place continues to draw people in. It is worth walking to the top tier for the most unobstructed view. The decayed homes next to the Porto side of the bridge is very moving -- adding a sense of history to the place. Have lunch and save time to walk along the water.
