We came across this restaurant when walking back from Fos to Porto. There are tables outside if the weather is good, and we squeezed into a table inside. It is obviously very popular with local Portuguese and a number of the diners seemed to know each other! There are a range of meats and fish dishes. We opted for a sea bream, with delicious garlicky boiled potatoes and a simple salad. The fish was shown to us before grilling which was done to perfection. Bread, olives, a couple of beers and coffees, and the delicious meal itself was all in for less than Euros 30. And service was very friendly. You are unlikely to get better simple Portuguese food than here.

Just down from the tram museum, look for the BBQ on the pavement. About six fish choices from the BBQ on the menu plus the everyday stuff. Each new table gets a fresh paper table cloth then you wait, the service was let's say Portuguese. But when the food arrived the BBQ fish was perfect. Drinks were cheap. We did like the place and the pace, it helped ordering bread and olives to nibble as starters. Well worth a visit if you are close by.

Arrived, there was no table, so we waited. When a table came free, the waitress was nowhere to be seen, so we sat down. Then ordered sardines, and salad. She brought the sardines with just potatoes, so we asked twice more for salad. She was just wandering around with a disinterested look, only brought the salad when we had finished. We wanted more sardines, so asked for more, and a Compal (juice) She said she didn't know if they had Compal, disappeared, never came back with a drink or answer. Then the sardines came, no potatoes, just 4 miserable sardines. Asked for potatoes, she wanders off again disinterested, doesn't bring anything! Eventually fed up, we go to pay, the manager says 'so sorry', she says nothing, Then he says we don't have to pay for the salad because the potatoes didn't turn up! As if he's doing as a great favour. Pathetic. A Portuguese restaurant that doesn't even know how to serve sardines. Avoid it.

We went there for lunch. Simple atmosphere and very nice staff. The menu has around 10 dishes to choose from, a combination of Portuguese traditional dishes and grilled fish. We had grilled fish, fresh and nicely prepared. But we could have chosen "tripas à moda do Porto" or "alheira com ovo frito". All in all, I think it is a good place to get good traditional food at reasonable price.

One afternoon I was walking along Cais das Pedras, I smelled some kind of charcoal burning aroma of food. I walked up and found some primitive or traditional way of grilling food. A restaurant staff grilled sardines right in front of the small restaurant with a few tables around its open patio and trams passing besides the tables. It sounds interesting and I stood a few minutes and observed the customers enjoying their food around the patio. I was not hungry but decided to give it a try. It was very basic but I like the atmosphere eating in the open at that temperature, perhaps 30 degree C. I ordered the sardines dinner and a beer. I enjoyed it a lot.
