We two friends leave for Gangotri at 3:30 am on bullet on dated 1 Oct. After long drive we reached 7 pm. But we spend two hours in Uttarkashi on the Ganga River.
Beware: There is no PETROL PUMP after Uttarkashi to Gangotri (100 km). At Harshil you will get ₹ 100 ltr. (Before 35 kms approx).
Its 7 pm and last hour on bullet was really chilled. There is no trek. Only 5 mints walk. We wore warm clothes but still there was cold air. Its not peak season (i.e. may & june) therefore we got room for ₹400/- double bed with Rajai. The food was costly there. After having food Hotel manager told us that its 8 pm. Now you take rest and visit the temple in morning.
We are so tired so we sleep at 9 pm and wakeup at 1:00 am. I am bit confused that its too early to visit Ganga river. But we decide to spend Amrit Wela at Ganga River. So finally at 2:00 am we reached on the bank of Ganga river. There was only a single man on the other side. Oh my God the water is really cold. Instead of full dip in water we take Snan(bath) with our hands to whole body. We spend one hour there. There were 2-3 Sadhus also who had mala in their hands. This was my Golden Time. I have no words to describe this experience specially 2 to 3 am at Ganga River. The sound of water was touching.
After spending one hour we reached room. Took a long nap and visit the temple at 10 am. There was no line. There is a bhairo temple and pooja sthali of Bhagirath ji where he spend 5500 years in Tapsya. Scenery is breathtaking. Area is srounded by large mountains.
At 12:30 pm we decided to go back to home. There is a place called Gangnani before Gangotri where natural hot spring (Garam Kund) occurs. We take bath when we were heading to our homes. An amazing experience. Jai Ganga Maa

2nd june was my b'day and my wife asked me to plan it at gangotri on 29th may.We drove to gangotri on 30th early norning at 5 am and reached chamba at 7 pm.We reached gangotri temple on 1st at 8 pm.the hotels and lodges are very average kind near temple with basics only.If you want to stay at moderate hotel you have to stay at harshil 20 kms before the temple.it was very cold there and we took a very average dinner..no other option available.next day when we wake up on 2 nd june and visited temple at 6 am..and touched holy ganga...the smiles spread over everybodys face..it was divine experience with beautiful sunrise behind the snow peaks.the gomukh is another 18 kms walk from temple which we didn't do due to lack of time. The best b'day celeberation ever.

(1) the most important thing if you are travelling through roadways buses (government), bus directed to Gangotri leaves at 5:30 AM (Sharp) from Haridwar and from Rishikesh. from Haridwar it is only one bus in a day
(2) After 5:50 AM only private buses are available for you to go to uttarkashi and from there you would have to change for Gangotri depending upon the number of passengers the bus / Taxi will move further otherwise you have to wait until next morning 5:30 AM.
(3) while returning from Gangotri the same thing applicable you can board the bus before 5:30 AM and it will take 12 hours to make you there in Haridwar.
(4) reaching there you can hear the sound of floating water of holy ganga.
(5) local shopkeeper are not friendly and aggressive
(6) Hotel room are not hygienic.
(7) Of course food is expensive and always confirm the rate of everything before eating. It is important because sometimes you can find them making the pilgrim fool
(8) It is not in much wider area but you can explore the things

This place is considered one of the sacred places of char dham yatra. Gangotri temple is situated just beside the river Ganga and it is surrounded by many peaks. The serenity of this place is enhanced by its natural beauty. Ganga aarti is performed here twice a day. Devotees can bathe here as there is a provision. Overall good experience.
