Sacred river Bhagirati Ganga originates from Gaumukh. It around 20 km from gangotri. Entire route onwards Rishikesh, Uttarkashi, Harshil are awesome. One can see milky ganga on entire route up to Gangotri. Here is proper arrangements for pilgrims as well as tourist. One will get rejuvenated to visit sacred Gangotri. Jai Maa Ganga

At the time of Druga puja, We decided to go to Gangotri Dham by our own car from Gurgaon. But I was not very confident to travel this long distance with my one year old baby. Anyway we started our journey with lot of woolen cloths and baby food on the last day of Navaratri.

We follow below route for travelling to Gangotri.
Gurgaon--------meerut-------- roorkee-----haridwar------rishikesh-------narendra nagar-------new tehri-------uttar kashi-------harshi------Gangotri

and returning route was
Gangotri-------Harshil---------Utarkashi----------Chinyalisaur-----------Mussoorie-------Dheradun-------Roorkee---------Meerut--------Gurgaon.

DAY-1, We start our journey from Gurgaon at 4.30 in very early morning. By 9 am we reached in Rishikesh. We had some breakfast in a dhaba. Then at 9.30 in morning we departed from Rishikesh. After Rishikesh hilly, sharp bend road was started. Till Rishikesh it was a very sunny day but after passing some way, rain started slowly and our path was covered with cloud. Hilly, turning road became invisible. Car speed came down. But after half an hour rain and cloud left us.

We had our Lunch near new tehri and continue our journey. At 5 o’ clock in the evening we reach Uttarkashi. Uttarkashi is big town and there are lot of different budjet hotel in Uttarkashi. So we decided to stay in Uttarkashi for that night. In the main city parking is a big problem, so we decided to book hotel outside of Uttarkashi. We booked a hotel and had our dinner in hotel and took rest.

Day-2, Next day we started for Gangotri at 8 o’ clock in the morning. At Gangnani we had our breakfast. After Uttarkashi road is very narrow. It is difficult to cross two vehicle at a time. Though road condition is good. On the way we saw lot of apple garden. The farmer ware selling the fresh apple on the road side. So we bought 10 kg apples and moved on. Scenic beauty was just awesome after the gangnani. The Ganga was flowing along with us. At 12.30 p.m we reached Gangotri. Car can reach till Gangotri temple. So we parked our vechiles and moved for taking bath.
We took bath in chilled ice melted water and went to temple. Landscape view of snow caped Himalaya from Gangotri temple was just unbelievable. I had spent some time on the bank of ganga and then did puja in temple.

After puja we had our lunch. As we dint have any plan to go to Tapovan and Gamukh by trek so we decided not to stay at Gangotri. So we came back Uttarkashi at same hotel. We reached at 7 o’ clock in the evening.
We ware too tired so after dinner we slept.
Next day very early in the morning around 5 a.m we started our journey from Uttarkashi. At return time we took another route through Mussoorie. This route was less traffic route and road was very good. At 10.30 a.m we reached at Mussoorie But in Dheradoon and modinagar we stucked in heavy traffic. We reached Gurgaon at 9.30 at night after taking 1 lunch and 1 tea break.

Again I stored a new memory in my mind.

The moment we touched Uttarkashi, It gave us magnanimous view of Bhagirathee from city side at Matlee..Gyansu. The holy city full of life, pilgrimages and cows on road, frequent land slides on roads tell abt live mountains and work to remove garbage make us proved that MEN ON Work to make our journey smooth and safe. This locality serve many aspects of mountain life..Holy Ganga descend down at Gangotree Dham 80 kms away from here with regular traffic manned by BRO. A series of hotels and restaurant along the way....Good pic sites at Maneri, Bhatwaree and Mast Harshil..meadows of Dayara above Raithal snow capped Apple orchard and Razma..what else you love to see.Rich Garhwali culture like vast mountains...Try once..touch here....feel it..

The temple marks site where River Ganga descended to the earth from Heaven. Its quite peaceful place, the Great Gomukh Glacier once stood at this point which with rapid global warming is now pushed around 25 km back.

The temple is located at the site where River Ganga descended to the earth from Heaven. Lord Shiva took Ganga in his hairs at this site. The temple is a small temple, very well maintained and dedicated to Ganga Maa Devi. There is the area of the temple where King Bhagirath had meditated and performed penance to get Ganga to earth. River Bhagirath runs close by.
