It's a bit farther from center and doesn't impress so if it was not the recommendation of a friend we would have missed it. And it would have been a pity because it's a family ran restaurant fresh and very tasty food: We had grilled vegetables with shrimps and grilled sea bus. We'll go back for sure

We were not so sure about this place at the beginning, but once we arrived we were received with a warm smile and a clean, colorful restaurant.

It was a good beginning! Then, service was great and finally food...uf! Good! There are several options and we chose the Fish & Chips and Grilled vegetables with Shrimps. You will find homemade generous portions. I hope you get a nice experience as well!

Our cab driver told us about this place and we are so glad he did ! The service was really good and the food just the kind you love when you are on holiday and crave for after restaurant food. The cod and the chips are a must try - even the simplest thing like the tomato and cucumber salad was delicious .. they treated us to some mouth watering local Greek dessert

Was attracted to this restaurant by great reviews of the fish and chips. They were very good but this is only tells part of the story as the rest of the food and wine tried was also excellent.

The restaurant is clearly aimed at locals rather than tourists but we received a warm generous welcome and excellent English was spoken. The salted cod fried in batter was up to the top standard we have experienced anywhere in Greece and the chips were crisp thinly sliced potato, served on traditional paper. Probably our favourite dish was the mushroom risotto which is cooked to order (and huge). Fried prawns, calamari, cheese saganaki and prawn saganaki were also delicious.

The house white wine was also probably the nicest we tasted over a ten day holiday and incredibly cheap.

The restaurant is only a couple of minutes walk from the main bus station in Chania. Well worth a visit if you are staying in Chania, or just passing through the town and gave an hour or two to spare. The easiest way to find it is to exit the bus station by the rear vehicle exit, turn left, right at the main road, and the restaurant is on the right hand side.

Bakaliarakia is more of a tavern than a restaurant - food-wise. Don't expect any fancy food, but the simple, traditional, high-quality dishes they serve are of high quality and very tasty.
The staff is very kind and the service is fast. The location is not anything special - there is no particular view since it is located near the city center, but the decoration is quite something!
Great for families and small groups.
