I don’t usually write reviews but felt I had to agree with all the other positive reviews on trip advisor. Spotlessly clean hotel , super nice owners from same family. No swimming pool but wasn’t missed as beach 5 mins walk away. Breakfast was enjoyable, although the same each day there was enough variety to vary it each morning. Room was perfectly adequate, bed firm but I like that , shower small but fine for our needs. Balcony just enough for two people and had full sunshine from 9 til midday. Room made up every day and clean towels every day. You could tell they took pride in their work from owners to breakfast and cleaning people. No traffic noise at night as we were situated at back of hotel. Busy crossroads outside will keep you amused whilst enjoying a drink on the terraced area. Plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance and Astali perfectly positioned for all your needs. Bakery just around corner and a supermarket. Plenty of pharmacies, including within walking distance. Marie’s Tavena two mins walk if looking for cheap meal and Gorgonas on seafront was good and a little more up market. Home cooking at Loggia family taverna in old town well worth a visit , took a while to find it though as lots of narrow side streets. All in all fantastic holiday and if returning to Rethymno would definitely stay at the Astali hotel.

The hotel is run by a very friendly family and the staff are so helpful and the standards are high. The place is spotless and the cleaning staff work so hard to maintain the standards. The breakfast is well presented and caters for all tastes. The two ladies keeping the buffet topped up and clear the tables work hard but always have a smile on their faces. The lady owner and her two sons also work tirelessly to keep their clients happy. The hotel is well placed for all Rethymnon has to offer. We recommend this hotel if you like smaller ,more intimate and friendly hotels.

Good value , well situated hotel with helpful, friendly staff. I have back problems and they provided a mattress topper as soon as I mentioned it, which made a huge difference. Our room at the front was noisy at night even with the door closed but with the air con on it wasn't noticeable.

Believe the hype! All the great reviews are correct. Great small hotel, wonderful staff and owners. Great location. Spotlessly clean. The location is convenient for the beach and the old town. Thank you all for a great stay.

Returned last week from a 2 week stay here, all the good reviews are true, it really is a very clean hotel run by a lovely family who go all out to make your stay enjoyable. We had e-mailed beforehand to request a room on a high floor at the front, which is just what we got. Couldn't believe that towels were changed daily! Air con free, which was great seeing as the temperatures were in the mid 30s. Room small but adequate, shower really small but as we aren't huge this wasn't a problem! Not relaxing balconies to sit on due to the traffic noise, but very entertaining watching the chaos! Once the door was closed at night the noise more or less disappeared and wasn't a problem. Hotel in the ideal place for both the old town and 'new' town and the beach. Didn't really miss there not being a pool as we prefer the beach anyway. The only thing missing was a bit of atmosphere in the bar at night, we were sometimes the only people there apart from the various family members who visited. Everybody in the hotel - the cleaning staff, people on breakfast duty and the family - are really friendly.

We really enjoyed visiting the old town and discovering all the side streets, it's just a pity we weren't there long enough to try a few more tavernas because you really are spoiled for choice. Didn't have a bad meal the whole two weeks. Discovered La Boheme at the end of the holiday and went back on the last night - delicious!

All in all a lovely holiday, just a pity we had to again go through the hell that is Heraklion airport at the end of it!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a sea view but balconies were hot late afternoon until sun went down around 7 pm.
