We made a booking here because:
- Vaxjo was a convenient place for an overnight stop on our journey across Sweden.
- Inclusion of evening meal in the hotel price was attractive.

We left thinking we should have gone elsewhere because:
- Vaxjo is a functional semi-industrial town and regional centre with a pedestrianised centre of 1960s concrete buildings.
- The hotel is in the pedestrianised centre and was difficult to find by road; car parking (extra overnight fee) is in a nearby basement carpark with narrow, nightmare access.
- The food was at best average: the main evening meal dish (no choice) was leathery pork slice casserole and the dining room attendant was indifferent.

Having said that, it wasn’t all bad:
- The bedroom was comfortable, but functional - for example no kettle etc for hot drinks.
- Reception staff were helpful.
- The hotel has been converted from a cinema; it was interesting to spot the retained cinema features.
- Vaxjo cathedral was worth a visit, and there is a promising walk along the centrally-located Vaxjo lake - weather and time permitting.

Thank you for your comment Barryblok! Its very valuable for us in order to improve.
I will forward your review to our chef. Hopefully next time you visit us there will be more to chose from at the evening meal. Växjö isnt a big city that offers the same leasure possibilities like bigger cities, however, there are several towns nearby which holds unique historical and artesanal features. Most famous are the glass factories. In some they even let you try to craft your own pieces.

We wish you the best. Feel free to pay us a visit next time you visit Växjö or its surroundings.
Best regards
Simon & the rest of the hotel staff

I have stayed there twice, once in the building down he street and the other time in the main building. its clean and the service is very good. The people at the reception were very warm and nice. The morning breakfast was very good. it had everything variety of cereals, juices, salads, fruits, bacon, eggs, pastry, breads.sometimes pancakes too.
The dinner was mostly good but you notice its very repetitive when u stay for a longer period of time specially during weekends. There are salads, 1 carb, 1 protein, soup, bread, a fruit and cheese

We stayed here for 4 nights recently and the hotel suited us perfectly. It is really close to the train station, about a 5 minute walk, and right in the centre of town with ATMs, a supermarket, shops etc all nearby. The staff were friendly, efficient and keen to help with any queries.
In the bar area they offer complimentary coffee, tea etc and a new selection every day of something sweet - some fab chocolate brownies on one particular day. The breakfast was the usual buffet sort but there were lots of different types of good quality bread and crispbread. In the evening the hotel offers a complimentary food buffet near the bar area which we went to once - (only once as we had commitments the rest of the time) - great cheese board and fresh interesting salads amongst other things, there was a hot option too.
We spent most of our time outside of the town but one night went to a bar round the corner (search for Vaxjo smak urbant kok och bar) which was a small bar with lots of different drinks, some lovely local beers, a good selection of food/beer snacks (we didn't eat but others were and looked very happy with it) and welcoming bar staff. Vaxjo is a very friendly, quiet Swedish town and the Hotel Cardinal reflected this perfectly.

Hi Ezzie!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay, and that you found the best our city has to offer. While Växjö isn't a very big city, one can still find pretty much everything. On behalf of all the staff we wish you a wonderful summer and hope to see you soon again!

Best regards

The hotel is a great location, close to the train station. Rooms are great, and meals, like everyone Clarion we've been in in Sweden so far, are excellent. A great value. The staff couldn't be friendlier.

We spent two nights here, from 1st to 3rd June 2015. The hotel is situated in the pedestrian zone of the city centre. On arrival we could park the car at some 100 m from the hotel and went there on foot. The very friendly and helpful receptionist informed us that they had places in the underground car park, which was accessible via a small part of the pedestrian zone. We got a place for our car there. Her next surprise was positive: we had been upgraded to a suite (451) in the part of the hotel on the other side of the street. Our suite was on the second floor under the roof with rather small windows. The room was large if not huge, clean and with very good twin beds. Internet (Wi-Fi) worked fine. The bathroom had no bathtub, but an excellent shower –which we actually prefer to a tub- and was clean. In the room we never noticed any disturbing sound from outside.
Remarkable about this hotel is that a buffet dinner and afternoon coffee are included in the price. The buffet was good, not excellent, but a sufficient reason not to go elsewhere for dinner. Vegetarians have nothing to fear: being vegetarians ourselves, we were informed what was vegetarian and what was not. We got a nice alternative for the carnivore part on both evenings. The breakfast was very good with more than sufficient choice.
The hotel is located in the shopping zone, near the railway station and at a 5-10 minutes’ walking distance from interesting museums (Småland, Glass and Emigration). The surrounding area of Växjö used to be famous for its glassworks. Unfortunately most of them have closed down in the last few years.
To conclude, this hotel is a good and pleasant base to explore Växjö and its surroundings.

Thank you so much for sharing your opinion about us! We are all very happy you enjoyed your stay in Växjö. You are right about many glassworks have closed the past years, however, the area still designs and crafts glass products of good quality. In some places they even let you try to craft your own pieces.
Best regards on behalf of all hotel staff!
