Engelbrektskyrkan offers a richly varied selection of music, the acoustics are fantastic and the selection brilliant. The Engelbrek church is built in Jugendstil on the old Kvarnberget, the tower rises about 30 meters and can be seen from a long way. The vault in the church is impressive, despite the massive building it feels airy and welcoming.
Engelbrekt Church is located atop a hill in Östermalm. The National Romantic style church was completed in 1914. It is one of the largest churches in Stockholm, with 1,400 seats.
In the spirit of romantic nationalism, the church was named after Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson who was a Swedish 15th-century rebel leader and national hero.
The building has cruciform architecture with a 32-meter high nave, making it the highest in Scandinavia.
Their performance from darkness to light was an amazing experience. The church was in an amazing light and the acoustic from the singers was outstanding. A memory for life.
if you're strolling around Östermalm, this is a nice church to make a stop at. Go inside and look at the interior as well.
Nice church off of the traditional touristic tour. Definetely super nice. Seeble from the distance. Take a look also inside!
Our first afternoon in Stockholm we saw this wonderful church on its elevated point as we crossed the junction of Östermalmsgatan and Nybrogatan on our way to the centre. We often admired its profile both in the daytime and it looked particularly impressive silhouetted in the moonlight. We looked forward to visiting it.
Completed in 1914, the interior is delightful, with Art Nouveau style themes. It is precious because it hasn't been anyway modified since its inception.
The nave is most attractive, framed with columns and arches. The eye is taken to the glorious altar area with its ornate backdrop and the double high windows providing illumination.
The barrel ceiling is grand with its reddish hue. The lighting fixtures are very appealing providing a soft glow and light. A high placed pulpit is lovely.
Musically a magnificent organ predominates at the rear. Candle holders are another attractively ornate work.
