We stayed at Ban Chantra. SBV website photographs show the villa when it was new (about 8 years ago) and disappointingly the villa had not at all been properly maintained and kept in good order. The five star kitchen was falling apart, the furnishing tatty and crockery all chipped. In a nutshell the villa was miss sold on the pretext of photographs that do not represent the condition of the property at the time.

We recommend that if you want to stay here, you only pay a deposit before you arrive, so that way you won't be disappointed with having paid exaggerated prices upfront for non existent luxury. SBV policy is no refunds, so be warned!!

The village as a whole is isolated and not located in a particularly nice area, the place is average and overrun by packs of wild dogs. The staff were helpful and pleasant and accommodating. The food was good, but pricey by Thai standards.

The main facilities are located in waste ground away from the village, although the facilities were good, it lacked any kind of ambience or feeling of a nice place.

Dear Ian K

Thank you for your review from your stay with us in August 2011, we take all guest feedback very seriously and due to the elapsed time since your stay I have gone back through our guest feedback forms, I note from the one your completed at the time of your stay your overall rating was good to excellent and your comments were "All the staff made our stay very enjoyable" and "An enjoyable destination if you like peace and quiet and quality family time away from the crowds"

With regards to the villa you stayed in, we have had no negative feedback since your stay 8 months ago and all our villas undergo a twice annual refurbishment program.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Samui in the future.

We stayed 10 days in Baan Jasmine of Samui Beach Village. The villa itself is modern, spacious and the generally well maintained, especially the pool was clean. The Staff is friendly and helpful albeit sometimes not very efficient. There are some disappointing things: first of all: the beach is not for swimming because shallow water or low tide. Many strawing dogs (also in the garden of the villa and the resort) are not everybodies delight. The kitchen was rather dirty with a bad smelling and the bakey oven and the dish washer were not working properly. The bed matresses were so hard that you easily could safe a thai massage (or better you were in need of one...) Considering the quite high rate of the villa wewould definitely not return.

Dear Tom,

Thank you for your review on Tripadvisor, we carefully listen to all feedback from guests staying in our villas. Over the last few months there have been a number of stray dogs around the resort, although very friendly and loved by many guests, the wonderful Samui Rescue are now assisting us in vaccinating and controlling these strays.

With regards to the beds, we are in the process of fitting thicker mattress toppers to our Villas to ensure a great nights sleep.

Your other comments have been passed on to our head housekeeping and engineering who have given the villa an additional deep clean and have rectified the appliance issues. The kitchen, you will be pleased to know is completely spotless.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Samui in the future.

Kind Regards,

We spent nine nights at Samui Beach Village, staying at the Ocean Beach apartments leaving on Friday 13th April 2012.

As a couple it was thoroughly enjoyable, very quiet and overall we had a great time.

The local staff, which are mainly Thai, are absolutely brilliant and cannot do enough for you. One lady in particular called Ray (pronounced Lay) is a total gem, and she and the General Manager, Luke (an Australian who you can’t miss, he is 6ft 6) enhance the reputation of the whole complex.

It is sad though to see the vast amount of hours of work these staff have to work, we can only hope that they are financially rewarded for their sterling efforts, however I have my doubts as the complex is run by a European couple, who charge European prices, but do they pay European rates for wages?

I mention this because we normally try to stay in the local community owned resorts when overseas, thus ensuring the local community retains the profits and benefit accordingly.

The Ocean View apartment we stayed in was fine, clean, well maintained and has Wi-Fi, a docking station, television and air conditioning, but it is nothing like it appears in the brochure at all. Some poetic license has been used and a very good camera has made the rooms appear a lot bigger and more modern than they are.

As I say the apartment was very nice, but I do wish it were portrayed more genuinely in the advertising.

One more small negative, the gym does not have rowing machine(s) as stated in the advertising.

The Ocean View apartments are not actually a part of Samui Village complex, they are part of a neighbouring, very run down complex, which borders the Samui Village complex. I would add though that the Ocean Beach apartments are not run down in any way at all, they are very well looked after.

It appears that the owners of Samui Village are Management Agents for these Ocean Beach apartments; again this is not made clear in the advertising. They are a five-minute walk from the restaurant/clubhouse at Samui Village, but they will pick you up and drop you back if you ask.

The pools and surrounding areas of this next-door complex are fine for swimming, but the sun loungers and chairs are dangerous and falling apart.

The wooden poolside furniture is very old, when I picked up a chair to move it the arm fell off, and when I went to lift a sun-lounger the leg fell off. I placed the broken leg on the lounger, only to find it back underneath the next day, not fixed, but with the lounger resting on it? The mattresses are not exactly clean, and some are actually “baked on” by the sun and can’t be taken off.I must say though that we did spend a lot of time at the lovely pool here, but please get the furniture changed.

I think the brochures should emphasize that these Ocean View apartments are on a neighbouring site, even if it is extremely close, but a little bit more honesty here would not go amiss, particularly as the rooms are not as modern or as big as clearly advertised, even though they are very nice and right on the beach.

The pool itself at Samui Village is very good indeed, very clean and with ample modern poolside furniture.

The Clubhouse/restaurant are very nice, the food is also very good but you will be paying European prices. The service is of a very high standard, provided by the lovely, helpful and ever smiling team of Thai and other staff; they really are a pleasure to deal with.

Reception provide a very good taxi service in to the local town Lamai, which is a ten minute drive and the cost is 400 Bhatt, a set price.

Lamai has many restaurants and bars, offering a wide range of cuisine at varying prices; the local food places are far cheaper and are really good. Saturday night and the "free" Thai boxing should not be missed.

We met a large group of people staying in the Villas, their opinion was that the complex was lovely but quiet, the staff were fantastic but the food prices were a little on the expensive side.

We had a lovely stay and were sad to leave, even though it really is extremely quiet and a taxi ride from Lamai, the local town. If you want quiet and relaxed this is the place for you.

The beach was very nice to walk, clean and the water was very warm indeed, but you do have to go out a very long way to swim, as it is very shallow.

I would recommend this complex if you want a quiet and relaxed time, it is very quiet indeed, but the standards are high if the food is a little on the expensive side.

The staff are absolutely first class and extremely hard working, they are a real joy to spend time with, some of the best I have ever had the pleasure to be served by.

We went on a couple of trips which were great fun, particularly the all day safari which takes in great aspects of the Island, plus we hired a car for a day (they drive on the left like in the UK) and strolled our way around the Island. The roads are safe in a four-wheel vehicle, but I would not recommend bikes at all as there were a lot of bike accidents, including people staying at Samui Village.

The staff at Samui Village are more than happy to help and book any of these tours/rentals for you.

Overall a very pleasant experience, good accommodation, good food, a very clean complex and you are taken great care of, with only a few negatives as detailed.

Thanks in particular to the lady Ray (Lay) and Luke the General Manager, it was an absolute pleasure meeting these two in particular.

Please get in touch if you have any questions at all.

Patrick and Annette.

Room Tip: Pick a ground floor room to get easier access to the pools provided. Even though they are shared with the upstairs apartments, down stairs is a definite advantage.

What a wonderful holiday we had at SamuiBeachVillage. My wife and I were celebrating our silver wedding along with our best friends and our stay was made even more memorable by the fantastic service received from all the staff at SBV. We left the arrangements for our beach vow renewal service to Fiona and her team and we were not disappointed. From the manicure and hairdo's for the girls, to the tear jerking set up and service on the beach, to the in-villa chef service all ending in a fabulous fireworks display, we couldn't have wished for more. The daily maid service is fantastic and everyone on the staff just want to make the holiday special. We could have stayed forever! The villas are superb (we stayed in Baan Tawaan), as is the beach, the clubhouse, the food and all the other facilities including a number of small personal touches. Don't look any further, book SBV!. Julie, Paul, Debbie & Phil
