Do not expect to find any artwork of the so-called super stars in this two-parted, admission free museum. But you may find nevertheless a lot of amazing artwork of Swedish or less known artists. In the first part of the museum, the Konstmuseum, they present simultaneous up to three different changing exhibitions of mostly modern art.
In the second part, the Västmans län historic museum, you will find a permanent multi-media exhibition of Västman lans history from the stone age until modern times. Most explanations are in Swedish but there are also some English language explanations. The whole museum is also very suitable for children.

The Karlsgatan2 museums in Västerås, one building two museums. Västerås Konstmuseum – the city's own art museum - and the Västmanland County Museum.

The County museum shows you the history of the county, most is explained in English as well. From the Stone Age, tools, the way of living, until modern times. You can see it all in photos, models, replicas and short films. You can even do some quizzes.

The art museum offers different exhibitions every few months. When we visited the museum, we could even contribute to a work of art and play darts on a giant wall. Fun!

Overall a nice museum where there is a lot to see and learn. The museum shop is small but has nice items. And surprisingly: it is for free!

It's a typical museum of different kinds of arts and in my taste it's a bit to modern. The front of house feels a bit messy and you're not quite sure where the exhibitions are exactly or where to start.

This is great place to get a background on how Västerås became what it is today. Very child friendly with lots of hidey holes and doors to open.
