We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Jussantupa on our Transun Northern Lights package tour in Jan 2023.

The rooms and communal areas were kept lovely and warm and clean with a designated space in reception to store your snow boots and outer wear. The sauna was a great treat and part of the national culture so don't forget to bring your swimming costume.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and went above and beyond to accommodate us and make sure that my 91 year old grandma was able to get the most out of her experience and take part in all activities.

We enjoyed the meals, with something different served everyday. Some of the dishes (1-2 choice of dishes served at lunch and dinner) were more typically Finnish so be prepared to try new things and you will be pleasantly surprised with good hearty food. They were also able to accommodate our dietary requirements which was great.

This hotel is a great place to see the Northern Lights when they are out. There is a school field behind the hotel with less light for a good view and a frozen lake right across the road where you can go sledging. There is also a supermarket across the street if needed and a lovely little souvenir shop in the hotel reception and a couple more further up the road.

One thing to be aware of is that there is no kettle in the rooms. This is not a problem as coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available at meal times but if you are someone who likes a late night or very early morning drink then pack a travel kettle.

I booked a three night trip for my husband's 70th birthday surprise. The hotel was really well run, the trip included three meals a day, the food was excellent with a good choice of options. The staff were very helpful and the rooms were a good size, well heated. We were accommodated in a suite, with a separate sitting room, a large walk-in cupboard. There was no fridge or tea and coffee facilities in the room, but we were able to pop our wine between the interior and exterior windows to keep our wine cool.

We travelled her with Transun, after having our original hotel cancelled as it had shut down. It’s a short 15 minutes from the airport, and is all you need as a base for your activities.
The rooms are large and warm, with the best shower and a comfy bed. The views aren’t spectacular, but it’s clean and welcoming.
We kept getting told that things operated on Finnish time, and meals, bar, sauna times changed most days, but this didn’t spoil a thing.
Meals were varied, and in a buffet style, very tasty, but not much choice, just pretty much a one meal option. There’s a supermarket opposite the hotel if you need to stock up on snacks and beer, but there is a nice bar in the hotel.
If you’re here for activities such as reindeer sleigh, husky sleigh etc, then prepare to travel up to an hour each way per activity, there’s not much on your doorstep.
We did everything, and the only thing remotely close to the hotel was the night in the ice igloo - an activity that requires you to wrap up warm, then put on more layers, then even more, and you’ll still be cold (don’t be fooled by the “some people just wear pyjamas” speech - it’s not true!)
No kettle in your room, but coffee and hot choc are available in the bar most of the day.
We stayed for three nights and saw the fabled Northern Lights on the last night - really lovely to see.

Have just stayed at the Jussantupa as part of the Festive Lights trip with Transun.
We were originally suppose to stay at the Davi Star but got moved a few months prior to our arrival due to the Star not being open.
At first we were a little disappointed as I thought the Star was better located. However, I was soon proven wrong.
Our stay was lovely. The staff were all friendly and accommodating and always greeted us with a smile.
The rooms were of a good standard and if you ask for a room at the back of the hotel you will have amazing views of the forest.
There is a small shutter at the end of the window which worked perfect as a cooling area for a bottle of wine. We took wine in our hold luggage as I had heard the cost of wine in the hotel was high and also Finland have tighter regulations on alcohol sales. This proved valuable.

The food was really good. Yes, you don't get a selection but what you do get is a nice hearty warm meal.
I am a vegetarian and the meal that is prepared each day isn't vegetarian. However, just ask the staff and they will make sure they prepare you something different. Again, it is just one thing that they will prepared but they do go out of their way to get something in specially for you.
Lunch and dinner you will always have a salad and bread option if all else fails.

The hotel does have a sauna and a cold plunge pool but the times it opens does not fit in with dinner times. This was the only negative as we would've liked to use these facilities. I do think they need to rethink the timings of the pool and sauna.

Right opposite the hotel is a supermarket and a chemist. The supermarket sells everything a supermarket at home would sell.
There is the local church you can visit and plenty of nice walks around the woodland area.
You will find the local school five minutes down the road and the school field behind is a perfect spot to view the Northern Lights (if you are lucky enough to see them)
There is a a beautiful lake opposite the hotel which is a must visit. When it is all frozen and snowy, it is just incredible to see.
You also have the visitor centre 25 mins walk up the road which has a small museum and a cafe.

As you walk up to the visitor centre there is a small silver store and also a craft workshop where the owner handcrafts items from reindeer antlers and other locally sourced stones and wood. The craft workshop is located on the side of her house but a sign is put out on the road side.
You have many perfect sledding spots around the hotel too.

All Transun excursions are about 40 minutes away but you are taken in mini buses.
The airport is only 15 mins away.

Overall a very lovely hotel based in the traditional area of Lapland. We certainly couldn't have asked for better.
