Viking Village Hotel
Ranked #3 of 4 Hotels in Hafnarfjordur
Reviewed 13 March 2017

Viking themed hotel, lots of trolls and Icelandic artefacts
Our room (34)was small but had a view of the sea and the town. The bathroom was modern with a bath and shower(a very high bath),the water is very hot and lots of it.
Coffee etc in the room. It was very clean and quiet
Breakfast was continental with hot porridge,
They have a restaurant with a wandering minstrel and all the staff are in Viking dress. Food was good
The reception staff were among the most helpful I have encountered anywhere.Always pleasant
Situation of hotel is good .
The bus to Reykavik is a five minute walk away and there are cafes very close .
The town is pleasant and it was possible to have a walk along the sea
Thoroughly enjoyable stay

Room Tip: Front uostairs

We stayed here for 5 days break with my fab friends in March 2017. It was clean and tidy with very patient and helpful staff and funny staff, The hotel is away from .the bright lights of Reykjavik however once you have been to Reykjavik in my opinion you have done that part of the break full of arty shops . The artefacts and carved wooden furniture in the hotel were just amazing, a real change from the cool Nordic decor you might expect in Iceland. You saw something every day. Breakfast was good and also try the Fjorukrain viking restaurant across the road, owned by the Hotel. Our room did the job clean and fresh linen every day.
There is a hot tub outside so you can sit and relax in the steam, in the snow surrounded by volcanic rocks. There's also a sauna for guests, have a go! It's free! Look for the artefacts around the hot tub and the little quirky ornaments they get you talking. Again the staff were helpful and polite lighting candles around the hot tub for us.

Nice quirky hotel, loved the architecture and style. We had a cabin for 4 of us - 2 adults 2 children (14 & 11). Plenty of room for us, clean, beds very comfy, duvets thick and warm. There was a fridge which was great for drinks and snacks etc which we took on our day trips. Small but perfectly formed bathroom with hairdryer and under floor heating. Only given cups and towels for 2, but once asked for more they arrived quickly.
All staff were very friendly and polite. Did not eat in the restaurant, only had a drink, but the food looked good.
Small but nice hot tub and sauna. Wifi very hit and miss.
There is a small shopping mall few mins walk away but shops not very exciting. Domino pizza is close by too.
7-8 min walk is Kronan supermarket.
Gray line tour company picked up/ dropped off for all our trips and Fly bus to airport stops opposite. Buses to Reykjavik just outside.

Far better than any basic decor, this hotel adds a certain something to your stay. We emailed a couple of weeks in advance for a room overlooking the harbour and were accomodated. Our room was suitably sized for two people and offered great views both during the day and for watching the Northern Lights at night time. The bed was most comfotable and everything was crisp and clean.
Plenty of English language TV channels.
Breakfast was served up to 10.00 a.m. which was great if you needed a lie in following the northern lights excursion. It was continental type and was plentifull. The only hot food being porridge and toast
The staff were great and very helpful with bus times and advice. We prefer to stay outside cities and travel in when we want. This hotel is just down the road from the bus stop to Reyjavik and took about 30-40 minsutes to get there.

Food at the restaurant was of excelent quality and again there was plenty of it., with a Viking musician often in attentance.

Suggest you book all your trips before you travel and be aware that both food and drinks in Iceland are very expensive by UK standards.

Following a massive record snowfall in recent years, the whole experience was fantastic. Well done.

Room Tip: Great view over looking the harbour, but some minor road noise at rush hour.
