We took a superjeep tour up to the top of a glacier. First it takes the rough 'road' towards the glacier, where the landscape gets more and more barren -- first lava fields, then mud and rocks (no greenery at all, like being on the moon), and finally snow. This tour was fairly pricey, but I felt it was worth it just for the drive to the glacier alone -- great views in a truly odd landscape.

Then the jeep ascends the glacier, which seemed touchy at times, but the driver was confident. The top of the glacier is very neat -- nothing but white in all four directions as far as you can see. Feels like being in Antarctica. The driver let us get out and walk around on the glacier for about 20 minutes.

On the trip back, we forded a river (pretty cool!), and also made a few stops -- at some waterfalls, at a lava tube cave, and at a hot spring. Long day, but had a great time and saw a lot.
