Very centrally located apartments, easy access and parking close by. Good base. Plus as a bonus located close to Bonus supermarket so you can limit the cost of hideously overpriced Iceland.

BEWARE: General wallet warning: Rampant profiteering in Iceland. Beware Icelandic prices on just about everything (especially, food, drinks, tours, etc). They try to justify the cost with: Taxes (not dissimilar to other European countries), transportation costs, exchange rates, etc, etc ......... but bottom line is quite straightforward, whilst this will amount to an uplift it is nothing like what you will have to pay. You would have thought that having suffered a banking crash the last thing they want is a tourism crash .......... which is exactly what will happen if they keep this up. Don't be fooled by the tourism press - there are many unique features to see in Iceland but THEY WILL UNJUSTIFIABLY FLEECE YOU FOR IT.

Great location but it comes at a price and I am not talking about Icelandic prices. There are several bars and nightclubs on the street and the noise doesn't stop till after 5am. Unfortunately we stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night so we had it at its worst. The room was large but very basic. There is a small kitchenette and a bathroom that hasn't seen a renovation for twenty years but was adequate. There was nowhere comfortable to sit other than the bed which only had two pillows so it was difficult to prop ourselves up to read a book. We opened one of the windows and the whole window frame almost fell out very dangerous for anyone walking on the street below. Flickering lights and dirty windows were the added bonus. These people do have a lot of units. I think we have just been unlucky. Best to stay away from the Main Street in a quieter area. Central Reykjavik is quite small and very walkable.

We stayed in a 2 bed apartment and it was exactly like it looked in the photos. We stayed in April & it was bitter cold outside but the apartment was lovely & warm. It was centrally located at Amtmannsstigur so was just round the corner from the main shopping street, restaurants, bars etc as well as city sightseeing. The apartment was spacious, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The kitchen was well equipped even down to a caddy with a nice selection of teas & a big jar of filter coffee for the coffee maker. The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in with lovely soft duvets & pillows & good quality bed linen. Hubby was pleased to have a good sized TV which had all the freeview channels including our local TV channel. Bathroom had a good shower with constant hot water, plenty of towels & there was a washing machine should you wish to use it. The cleaners came in halfway through our stay & emptied bins, brought fresh towels & teatowels. I would have no hesitation in booking Luna Apartments again should I return to Iceland & would thoroughly recommend them. I would suggest anyone staying self catering to shop in the Bonus supermarket (there's one not far from the apartment) where the food is a lot cheaper, you'll know it by the piggy face on the door .

Luna has several apartment houses -- we stayed at the one on Spitalastigur 1, about a 5 minute walk from the main street of Laugavegur. Mind you, his was not the Ritz or a Westin: the apartments were in an older house w/ 5 or 6 others, but they were very nice, clean and had everything that you may need for a do-it-yourself stay. Ours was Rm 202, a one bedroom, with toilet and with a dining room/kitchenette. It contained an electric burner stove, a microwave, coffee maker (w/ coffee), water heater, eating and cooking utensils even cleaning liquids. The living room had a fold-out couch, along with a table and a working phone. The bedroom had a queen bed, electric clock, extra blankets and good blinds. The bathroom had towels, a hair dryer and a shower. Most importantly, the unit had good WiFi, working heat and was warm.

The apartments were in a quiet residential area, so there was hardly any street noise --- very important since the days are very long and people like to party throughout.
The cost was very reasonable -- about half of a center-city hotel. I would highly recommend Luna Apartments @ Spitalastigur

Right on the main road where are all action is this small town is, opposite the Chuck Norris cafe. Most bars and restaurants are all in walking distance. We had a one bed room, kitchen/living room apartment overlooking the little red house in the back yard. Everything was perfect neat and clean.
