We arrived to only notice scaffolds on the premises surrounding a large part of the building. Fine, they are upgrading. We entered the building which is contemporary and bright. We registered our arrival and specifically asked if any of the construction was in the vicinity of our room. the woman advised us that it was exterior and that if any work was to be done, they only do it shortly in the daytime hours. We specified that we were working and required a quiet area of the hotel for this and our children's purpose. She assured we had a good room. We went up the lift only to find our room was overlooking the hotel lobby. Big bright windows, that are your only source to cool the room, open to the lobby area. We settled in and went for lunch only to return and find drilling going on above us. Loud construction hammering, equipment for the whole duration of the day. Needless to say, not much work was done. We left for diner and returned to a quiet room. Bed was soft and worn in some areas, enough that your body slides in the opposing direction. The next morning, straight out of the shower, I opened up the room curtains in horror as I found a man directly in my sight of vision on scaffolds looking directly into the room. We gathered our things and left the hotel for the day. We checked out the next day, indicating to the person at the front about our experience however, they didn't seem to care one bit about how disruptive this 700$ room a night was. The Hilton is nearby, new and honors loyal clients. Chose wisely!

If you want to be at the center of the action (i.e.:the walking distance from all the action in town, shopping, restaurants, sightseeing, bars, fun stuff), this place is about a $16 USD cab ride from there. $110 USD cab fare from the airport. After the first day it was just cheaper to rent a car with snow tires, which I did. If you have a car, parking is free, which is wonderful. This is also a great jumping-off point to all the foss's and touring areas within a few hours drive.
The room they put us in faced inward over the lobby, 4th floor. They were doing repairs and using lacquer on the floors with a heavy chemical smell. This was giving my family headaches, and they changed us to a room that accessed outside air. We realized later in the week that our part of the hotel went up 4 floors, while another part of the hotel was 12-14 stories. Those rooms probably have good views, as there are no other buildings in this vicinity.
While most things about this hotel, from the location to the decor were average, what really elevated this hotel (to make the overall grade "very good") and made this visit outstanding were the service and the food. The staff here are multi-lingual, professional, efficient, and friendly. The food at the hotel was really high quality. Coming from California I'm REALLY picky about salads and greens and I had a salad every day because they were so well done here. The vegetables were perfect, the fish was sublime. We didn't feel the need to dine out all the time because the restaurant in the Grand is so high quality. Breakfast, lunches, dinner with a full bar and a good choice of wines- the week really flew by.

this is a clean, nice hotel. nothing amazing, it does the job. it's a bit out of town, you'll have to drive into the city to walk around. the rooms were a nice size, very modern and clean. there isn't a restaurant...watch your directions...you see it from the road, but it's hard to get to.

Modern, clean hotel. Rooms was very spacious. View from our 12th floor room was amazing, with views of the church and the Reykjavik harbor. Bed was very comfortable. Only small complaint in the room was that the shower's water pressure was weak. Breakfast buffet was really good with a wide variety of foods.

Only downside of the hotel was that it was loaded with tour groups, and does not really have much charm. Parking was very convenient. Please note that there is a bit of walk to downtown Reykjavik from the hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room with a church/ harbor view on a high floor - stunning sunset and sunrise views.

We only stayed for a night. But we feel that Grand Hotel Reykjavik is the best. The room is large and clean, the service is good, the location is close to the center, special: the breakfast is excellent. They have fried rice, they have noodle, they have western food, plenty of drinks and food to choose.

Room Tip: Overall, the room is quiet.
