I stayed in this hotel for one week with my wife and 3 kids. I need to start with the Concierge desk with Frances Harber. Even before our arrival she had made the difference. Our trip would have not been the same without her expertise, knowledge and help. She practically solved all my issues and questions in a very timely manner and also saved me $ on changing our tours around.
The breakfast buffet was included in our rate which was complete and also excellent. Many different choices to pick from and staff very attentive and friendly.
I cannot give the hotel 5 stars due to the LOCATION and LACK of a good restaurant at the hotel.
Most of the restaurants, shopping and nightlife are in the Center of town and Taxis are extremely expensive in Iceland. So having to take taxis into town and back becomes a budget of its own. A 5 minute taxi ride is around US$25-US$27
I suggest the hotel set up a shuttle service for guests to solve this problem.
The rest is perfect

Thank you for your kind words and mentioning Frances Harber. We are so thankful having her as a part of our team. Grand Hotel Reykjavik offers their guests a free shuttle service five times in a day from the hotel to the city center. Should you decide to visit our beautiful city again, Grand Hotel and all the team will be delighted to welcome you again.

Breakfast & Dinner buffets exceed expectations.
Try to avoid 7-8am breakfast buffet due to Tour Bus crowd.

Unplug hotel room refrigerator if its compressor is too loud.
Bring eye shades due to midnight sun.

This hotel was selected by Regent cruise line and I was definitely not on my preferred list. Rooms are very small ;cold and boring .no amenities like bathrobe or shampoo nothing and I minibar very little in the way of furniture.
The bed is comfortable and the breakfast buffet was filling and very good but I wouldn't stay here by choice also not centrally located

Picked this as it included breakfast and evening meal - not a lot of places do this in Iceland apparently. Plus we knew food was going to be expensive (everything is expensive there) and did not want to trek around look for food in the middle of winter. Both meal times were superb with a wide range of choices. Room was large and comfortable - the higher rooms give a better view of the city.

We had two executive rooms at this clean, modern tastefully decorated hotel. Rooms aren't huge but they're a decent size- wood floors. Beds were comfy. This is one of the better places to stay in the city for sure. Furnishings are tasteful and there is of shelving as well as lots of hanging space in the closet. The bathroom has a fair bit of vanity space. The hairdryer doesn't have much power to it and it takes a long time to dry hair. It's nice to have a power window in the room since it is located up high. There are three elevators so you usually aren't waiting long at all. The gym is pretty good but it is also located very close to a huge sports complex offering lots of options - gym, swimming etc. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is quite large and there is a wide assortment of food clearly trying to cater to the wide range tourists that stay here. It is a popular place- many tours stop here for hotel stays on their travels.
The bar areas have good service. The bistro area has a small menu but good food. Located on a main route so it's easy to travel to and from.
