We reviewed a lot of accommodation locations in Reykjavik before choosing Castle House, primarily because of its central location and reasonable price.
Our apartment was fine (#61), although we felt the bed could have been better arranged in the room. Nice, clean, well appointed.

Castle house is literally behind The National Gallery, which faces out on the very pleasant “Pond”. We were picked up for all the tours we booked at Bus Stop 2, which is only a 4/5 minute stroll from Castle House. This was also where the bus to and from the airport stops.

The booking process (all done online) and check-in all worked very smoothly and we had absolutely no problems. Oddly, although we received plenty of text messages and emails, we never actually met or spoke to anyone from Castle House, either before or during our stay! Not an issue, but certainly a first for us!

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

We have streamlined our operation to minimize costs which is passed on to our guests in lower prices.
The apartments are self catering (although we provide coffee, tea, sugar, milk etc.) and have
fully equipped kitchens.

As you say the location is great and City Hall with the main tourist information center is 5 minutes away.

Our housekeeping staff is efficient and on hand every morning. However guests tend be out at that time.
We provide phones in all apartments with free local calls. Guests can reach us at any time for
information or assistance. So, even if we do not meet your every need is catered for.

I look forward to your next visit

Stayed at apartment 50, where the entrance is outside on the right of the building. There are no stairs and therefore good for people with mobility issues or heavy luggages. Con side is that there is no balcony and the window looks out at street pavement level so it’s not possible to see the sky.
The place was clean and have many amenities such as hair dryer, a drying rack which is v useful and a full kitchen with electric kettle, toaster, coffee maker, can opener, dish washer, pots, plates, knives, cutleries, etc...everything that you need to make a meal. There is even a packet of milk in the fridge, salt and pepper and coffee, sugar etc...provided.
House keeping was provided everyday. The beds were firm and comfortable but the pillows were too soft and lumpy for me.
Location was excellent. It’s about 1-2 mins walk to bus stop 2, and about 5-6 mins walk to bonus supermarket. Hard Rock Cafe was also around the corner and was within walking distance to main shopping street and the Harbour.
The only thing I don’t like is the smell of lingering sulphur in the room. The hot water was from geothermal source so it has a sulfur smell like rotten eggs to it. Took me some time to get used to it. Not sure whether it’s the same for other hotels and apartments in Reykjavik.

We decided to book apartment #20 for 7 nights even though we were doing 2 x overnight tours. This was for convenience as we had a lot of luggage (6 week holiday). We were able to cook evening meals, breakfast and also made some sandwiches for our tours. This really helped save money as the meals on the road can be quite expensive.

The apartment was perfect, location spot on for Bus Stop #2 and 5 minutes from a Bonus store. There was a very adequate kitchen, lots of hot water, very warm in the cold winter and it was serviced every day. Very clean.

There was tea/coffee and some milk there and they also provide bath wash/shampoo and toilet paper.

It is up some steep steps, no problem for us, but if you have mobility issues ask for a ground floor apartment.

We really enjoyed our stay here.

Castle House is in a great location - a short walk to shops and the local grocery store. It is a very comfortable apartment. We had apartment #30, which is on the second floor. There were 2 closets- plenty of room . The beds were comfortable. The living room had a sofa and table and chairs and the kitchen was stocked with everything you need. We saved a lot of money on food as Reykjavik is very expensive. There was a balcony overlooking the Pond. So pretty! The owners went out of their way to help us with our check-out. I would highly recommend Castle House. What great value! I can't wait to come back and stay here again.

Firstly before i start on the hotel I wouldn't go again to Iceland or would I recommend to family and friends. Its a very, very, very expensive place to visit and i kept getting the feeling i was getting ripped off all the time. (my feelings are usually right).

Now for the apartments. If you are visiting Reykjavik and don't want to pay high prices for hotels or visiting on a budget the Castle House Apartments are perfect. Although we did not consider them to be luxury apartments, they had everything that was required. Very good location, warm, good cooking facilities, nice comfortable bed and adeqent bathroom. The smell of the hot water took some getting used to and my wife would not wash her long hair in it. But apparently all Reykjavik is the same. The only downside is check-out is on the button, they are waiting for you to vacate. The other is, if your flight is late afternoon/early evening, theres nowhere to put your cases unless you make way to the bus station and use the lockers (expensive). Communication is by email and envelopes left for you. You don't see anybody. But the price i paid for two nights was very good. For those who have two much money and want to visit Reykjavik, I would recommend the Castle House Apartments.

Thank you for your review. The exchange rate for the krona is not as favorable as it was a few years ago. This makes the best restaurants very expensive but you can still find cost effective lodging and reasonably priced eating out.
Still it helps to have a kitchen which you will find in all our apartments.

We offer quick, unattended check in and check out but staff is on hand every morning to keep our apartments spotless for our guests and to take your luggage into storage until check in time if you arrive very early.

If an apartment has been free on the day before arrival we offer free early check in but as we are mostly fully booked we can seldom offer this bonus.

We do all we can to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one and look forward to your visit.
