The room was just okay. When we arrived, the first room wasn't clean and the bed looked and smelled like the previous guest had used it as a toilet. The second room we were given had a lovely view of the road and some warehouse buildings.... Breakfast was good and the receptionists were very helpful.

Room was very good. The hotel is not in the city center, but the location was convenient since this hotel is near the Hilton where there is a bus stop for both local buses and the Hop on Hop Off. The hotel restaurant had excellent food and there was a nearby cafeteria that was very popular with locals. Next door was a thrift shop where we were able to buy beautiful Icelandic sweaters. Breakfast at the hotel was excellent. Reykjavik is very expensive, but the price at this hotel compared to elsewhere was very good.

Coaches from Airport will deliver you to the door ... tickets can be bought on board Icelandair flights as well as at airport ... Be warned 'Hotel Island' is pronounced 'Hotel Eesland'
Hotel is about 15 to 20 minutes walk from town centre .. map from reception ... head down to the prom and along the front. Hotel modern with friendly Reception staff ... rooms reasonable size ... can be very warm and needed to sleep with window open but it was early Autumn and was warmer than usual outside.
Buffet breakfast offered a wide choice and the lunch/ dining/ bar area offered snacks and meals. More expensive than Uk prices but that applies to Iceland in general. Various fast food sit down places are around the back of the hotel block plus an interesting second hand shop a couple of doors away if you need to by a cheap additional layer of clothing etc!

We stayed at the Hotel Island for 5 days. The hotel is very nice. Several reviews mentioned to request a newly renovated room. We agree. Our first room was in the older section of the property. It was in need of serious renovation. The hotel staff was fantastic. They were able to move us for our 2nd night. Big difference. Very nice, clean room with modern amenities. As most people stated the breakfast buffet was nice but we preferred to eat at one of the local bakeries in the morning. Delicious and less expensive than most Iceland prices. Zara in the bistro is wonderful and will take care of you while dining or enjoying happy hour. She is a self-proclaimed music geek who was happy to be our own DJ. Enjoy Reykjavik and Iceland in general. People are wonderful. It is pricey.

Arrived at the hotel very early due to flight times but were greeted pleasantly and offered a place to store our luggage as our rooms would not be available until 2 pm. This is quite normal hotel practice and was what we expected. The walk into the main harbour area was about 2 miles and took about 30 mins. This may be a downside for some but for us we welcomed the exercise and the walk along the sea front was quite pleasant. The hotel itself is clean and well maintained. Our room was of ample size. We had an issue with the shower only running cold and this took 48 hours to correct and two visits to reception. We ate in the restaurant which was good quality but the choice was limited. The staff were polite and helpful even though a little tardy in sorting out our shower. There are very few eating places in the immediate vicinity so it is either the hotel or a trek into town. All the local tour operators picked up and dropped off at the hotel. All in all a pleasant stay.
