Storm Hotel by Keahotels

We had 4 nights in October 2017 at the sparkling new Storm Hotel just outside of downtown Reykjavik. The hotel is mere minutes walk from the main shopping streets and many pleasant places to see and to eat and has a bus tour pickup point right outside. That's both a blessing and a curse, with a little bit of engine noise from early on.

Otherwise, we found the hotel both quiet and comfortable, with a modestly sized twin room simply but stylishly decorated and kitted out with large tv, tea and coffee, attractive shower room and very comfortable beds. It possibly could have used more storage space for 2 people.

Downstairs we enjoyed a good breakfast buffet which was pretty strong on fresh baked goods and other cold items, though a few hot items would not have gone amiss as well. As far as I could make out only the porridge, and the coffee of course, were hot. Through from the breakfast room was a comfortable and smart little bar where you can enjoy local beer - at a price, like everything else in Iceland - and relax of an evening. Bar staff, as all the staff we met, were friendly and helpful.

There's free on site parking but it's limited and the space can be quite tight, especially for manoeuvring a larger car. Our little Yaris was fine! Parking on surrounding streets is free but payment is required during working hours.

All in all this hotel was a good value option and frankly some of the facilities which are absent here were not really missed as we were out and about for so much of the time - it was very much a comfortable place to rest and relax after a busy day seeing marvellous Iceland.

As there's no restaurant here, I do recommend going to Hlemmur Square and the fine food court there for a great choice of places to eat. It's just a couple of minutes walk.

Room Tip: A room at the rear of the hotel should be quieter, away from the street and tour buses which start p...

Chose as location close to down town can walk in 10 mins. Lots of food place close by and also major bus pick ups for tours literally at front door. Clean and good facilities. Friendly staff and breakfast was great too. Good value for money. Well worth trying.

On a recent trip to Iceland, my husband and I stayed at the Storm Hotel. It has a great location; within walking distance to downtown Reykjavík. The staff are helpful and friendly. Wifi in our room was without a hitch. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. The only very minor negatives were there was very little room for your belongings and the bathroom sink was so small it was difficult not to get water everywhere when washing your face.

We stayed here for two nights on each end of our trip to Iceland. It’s in a central location so you can walk to any of the city sights and is right across from the number 12 bus stop for easy pick up and drop off for tours, etc.

The rooms are on the smaller side, but clean and new. Large bathroom and nice large towels. Breakfast offers several options and even though it’s fairly busy we always got a table.

When we arrived at the start of our trip at 7AM the front desk staff were super helpful, letting us sit for breakfast and getting our room ready by 9AM even though check in was 3PM. They will also store your bags.

You can hear every single noise of the rooms next to you and above you. There's such little sound insulation that it sounds like these noises are coming from inside your own room. I also awoke several times to the noise of people returning in the middle of the night and slamming their doors. Unless you're basically in a coma while you sleep, I would not recommend this hotel. Also, the curtains let in the most light of any place we stayed in Iceland. This is an important consideration depending on what time of year you visit.
