The name could fool anybody, but La Mere is not a sea food eatery. They serve a combination of Indian, Arabic and Mediterranean cuisine and what attracted us was the availability of vegetarian food. When we visited we found to our pleasant surprise that most of the kitchen as well as serving staff were from India and turned out to be a very friendly bunch. The Maltese owner was also very courteous and welcoming. The food (we tried only the vegetarian and vegan options) was very authentic, tasty and wholesome. There is a whole variety of options of dishes from India as well as Middle East and the Mediterranean region featuring crab, fish, lamb and beef, which I’m sure will taste as authentic as the palak paneer, the sambar, the tadka dhal, the pilau, the jeera rice and the vegetable tagine that we enjoyed. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and gets generally crowded on Fridays and Saturdays (they don’t work on Sundays), so booking a table would be recommended. Also they have a takeaway and delivery service (called Tuk-tuk) as well. All in all, a highly recommended restaurant.
