Visiting Salzburg without taking a few hours walk by the old town would be a great mistake as one can not feel the city without passing through the narrow streets and the squares. Don't miss Mozart's birthplace and living house.

Salzburg is beatiful city :) It has very nice architecture, the atmosphere there is very nice..The old centre you can walk easily, if you want to walk to the fortress, you can, or you can easily take the ,train, up there. Amazing option is ,,Salzburgr Card,, you can choose for whole long you want it (i think it has options 24h/48h..etc, but better check it :) - muzeums, fortress and Untersberg included + more...Mozart is everywhere ! I am sure you will enjoy the Old town of Salzburg

Brilliantly well preserved old town; local council spending money all the time to maintain cobbled streets etc
Wide array of shops at all price points
Loads of food choices from traditional beer Keller to Indian
Easy to access by trolley bus or a stroll over the padlock bridge
A must do visit when in Salzburg

Salzburg is a town of only about 150,000 people. Seems they each own a retail shop, a bakery, a cafe, or a little candy store! The history including Mozart's birthplace, buildings hundreds of years old, and did I mention all the small, cafes and shops?

The only time we went across the river to new town is for a few out-of-town tours.

old town of salzburg is beauty,
i would recommend to take a walk , have some snacks and energy foods ( but then you will probably miss delicious street foods) so its up to you, but its not just food ,you will see the culture, art and history of the town and also you dont want to miss the house of christian doppler ( inventor of doppler effect) ,
its great fortune to have two great sons like them and many more that i might not know.
