This private institution stages temporary exhibitions. I was disappointed to have missed the exhibition of Georgia OKeefe's work earlier in the year but decided to see the current exhibition of Chinese artists landscapes. It was well laid out and lit and there were some very good landscapes in oils. Lovely use of light and shade. I wish the names of the artists had been better displayed but all in all it was a very nice surprise and I liked a lot of the paintings. They have a good shop with lots of books, postcards and quirky gifts. Well worth a visit and free of charge.

Thank Gwen J

The Bank Austria Kunstforum, located in the heart of the Freyung art district in Vienna, is one of the top addresses for art lovers interested in classic modernism and the avant-garde paintings of the post-War years. Leading museums and private collectors display their collections here. Van Gogh and Miró, Cézanne and Picasso, Kandinsky and Kahlo, Warhol and Toulouse-Lautrec – the gallery regularly shows special exhibitions dedicated to the grand masters of art.

Great place for exibitions, in the center of the city, easy to find (Freyung), high quality exibitions, for art lovers, I have been there two times, the retrospective of Georgia O Keeffe and her White Flower is fascinating. Shown in Austria for the first time.

Bank Austria is a bank associated to the Italian banking and financial group UniCredit. It pays attention to cultural issues, and has allotted a permanent space at its headquarters in Vienna for carrying out cultural events. This space is called “Bank Austria Kunstforum”. The events mainly consist of temporary art exhibitions; they generally are of very high quality, so, when you are in Vienna, you are advised to keep an eye on what is going on there. Admission is always on payment. At the time of my visit there was a very good retrospective exhibition of Balthus paintings; many Tripadvisor’s reviewers have enthusiastically reported on it.

The only reason for visiting the Kunstforum is to attend the events organized at this venue. The location is very central (8, Freyung Street), midway between Stephansplatz and the Schottentor; it can be easily reached on foot from both places. The buses 1A and 2A stop at its doorstep. The surrounding area is extremely interesting from the architectural point of view, with baroque churches and palaces; there is an intense scent of “old Vienna”.

This a private venue owned by the Bank Austria. You may just miss it as you walk from the market on Am Hof to the Market on Freyung-where this exhibition hall is located.
(From there take a walk to the Burg theater and the Rathaus, stopping for coffee and cake at Lindtman coffee shop).
When we visited the place a retrospective of Balthus was presented. He was a very important one person movement of art. Suffice to say that Raine Maria Rilke was his mentor.
The list of lenders to the exhibition proves that this is a well known and respected venue so one can expect other important exhibitions there from time to time.
Before you arrive at Vienna make sure to check what's on show at the forum
