Just back from the Amalie on our second visit to Tromso. Previously stayed at the Comfort Express, this time we chose the Amalie based on location and price. We were treated to a warm welcome and good local information by the staff. We purchased breakfast for the week at 100 NOK per person per day. This was a very smart move because there was a wide choice including hot food and as you will find out food is very expensive in Tromso and it is quite inconvenient starting the day trying to find somewhere to eat. There is complimentary tea and coffee all day and waffles at 18:00.
We had room 411 on the 4th floor. It must be said the rooms are quite small and tired in terms of decor as is the whole hotel but perfectly sufficient for our needs. Bed was comfortable and we slept well. If you want contemporary swank go elsewhere but as we found you really have to pay for it.
The location is superb. The Flybussen from and to the airport drops you just at the back round the corner from reception (10 NOK per person each way). The all important Tromso Tourist Centre is just around the corner and the Radisson Blu next door, both the most popular pick up points for tours. You can walk to the Arctic Cathedral, Presvannet Lake and Telebukta and all museums from the hotel. This is a great value for money hotel in Tromso. We would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is very well located in Tromso's center: you can walk to get to restaurants, shops, bars or other activities. The staff is very friendly and gave us good advice, which was definitely a plus. Our room was a bit tiny but very practical and a bit old. The breakfast is simple.

The reception staff are friendly and helpful but the hotel is let down by the small rooms and the fact it needs updating as the hotel looks very tired and worn. We stayed for 6 days at the hotel and on our arrival the room was fairly clean. During our entire stay the wooden floors were not swept once and the bathroom not cleaned either. The sink and shower were not even wiped over, although our bed was made each each day and the bin emptied. The toilet seat had also seen better days. There is tea and coffee in the rooms but once they had been used they were not replaced. We were not aware until we arrived back home and looked at other reviews to find that there is free waffles and coffee available in the breakfast room. It would have been nice to have been told. The hotel does not have parking, but there is parking outside the hotel if you are lucky enough to get a space which you have to pay for. From about 5 in the evening it is free to park but you are charged for parking from 8 in the morning. You either get up early to put money in the meter or as we discovered you can pay for it the night before (saving on the early morning alarm). Putting aside all the bad points the hotel is located close to shops, cafes and restaurants.

Dear Charlotte,

Thank you for your review. We truly appreciate your feedback, as it is important for us to always improve our hotel and services.
We are very sorry that our housekeeping services did not meet your expectations, and that the waffles and coffee were not brought to your attention at check-in. We encourage guests that are not satisfied to contact the front desk so we can fix it right away.

We do offer parking for 150 NOK per night in the city parking tunnel.

We hope you still enjoyed your time in Tromsø!

Best regards

Close to everything - shops, cafes/restaurants, tourist info centre, pick-ups/drop-offs for airport shuttle and most tours. The hotel itself is pretty good. Good amount of heating and kettle for boiling water which we didn't find in Comfort hotels we also stayed in during our Norway holiday, but they didn't replenish the sachets of coffee in the room though. Breakfast was decent but nothing was labeled especially the slices of meat which was rather difficult for those with dietary restrictions. Needed more variety though as we got tired of the same stuff by the third day. And no one told us about the waffles which we're really disappointed about!

Free waffles and coffee every evening and room was decently sized for three adults. The location was great as it was a VERY short distance to the Radisson Blu, where a number of tours picked up and dropped off. The hotel was also a short walk to restaurants and shopping.

Wish the bathroom was larger and the shower area was recessed so the water wouldn't splash out as much as it did. This isn't a deterrent by any means since my friends and I would likely stay here again if we came back.
