It seemed to be small from outside but there are actually lots to see. From animals and plants in Norway, aurora light show, to history of Nordic inhabitants, one should spend half day here to experience the effort they have put in. There is also a good collection of books published by the university on researches of Norweigian lives. Make sure you are aware of the bus schedules else you can wait outside for an hour.

This museum requires a short bus ride on the number 37 bus if you are staying in the city centre, but it is worth it (use the mobile apps for travel planning and ticketing for a cheaper price). There are quite a few different exhibits, my favourite was the one about Sami Culture, and I also liked the exhibit on the Aurora (very cool plasma chamber). Some of the exhibits are only in Norwegian (Sami culture and Viking/medieval exhibits), but search for a laminated translation booklet which provides most of the signs for everything in English
and other languages (though these guides could be better maintained and the numbers on the exhibits aren't very easy to see). All the exhibits are very detailed, and the girl at the front desk was very friendly. If you are only going to go to one museum in Tromsø I would definitely recommend this one.

A guide is definitely worth having to help explain the Sami history and the development of the region. There are also exhibits dealing with religion and natural history. A very interesting museum.

Worth a visit for the history of Sami nation. Good information and friendly staff. Would recommend especially when coupled with a walk from Tromso Centre.
