Stroll stroll and then have some coffee. Great street in Oslo to just have a lot of fun and relax. Shops. Coffee. Bars. Tea. It's all there.

This is a really nice strolling avenue with shops, restaurants, hotels, street performers and lots more. The street begins at the Central (train) Station and continues northwest all the way to the Royal Palace. This journey might take 30 - 40 minutes.
Some nice places to see along the way such as the Royal Palace, the Stortinget (Parliament) and the cathedral. A lot of very nice (read expensive) shops all along.
I've been here in many weathers & at many times but most recently, sunshine! (Though it was equally great in snow)
We were here 2 weeks ago around 8pm when it was still light and then again around midnight when it was a little darker. At any time of day I think Karl Johan is a must walk down street, in the daytime it's nice to walk and see the tourist landmarks and visit the shops but at night there is a whole different atmosphere.
We met some drunk Norwegians who wanted to be friends with us but even though it was midnight it still felt very safe. And the Freia sign looks cool all lit up!
So yeah, go to Karl Johan and visit the Freia shop, look at the Norwegian Parliament building and walk down to the palace! There are lots of cool picture opportunities.
Nice shops and with some luck you will spot nice artists performing on the street. Watch out for people who seemed to bee poor.
We stopped in Oslo for the day on a cruise, we walked down Karl Johan's gate & saw the parliament building & the royal palace, we sat in a bar here & enjoyed people watching, we later ordered some food in a nearby restaurant, it's not cheap here but where is in Norway! Near the station & shops!
