This Scandic is definitely better than the other 3 Scandic hotels Our Trafalgar Tour stayed at in Norway. Why? The shower was adequate size and had a door that went all the way across. Still no amenities. A bit more counter space to put your toiletries on. Also there was a room safe, iron and ironing board.

There were enough outlets in the room.

The room is still pretty dark, if you close the blinds for privacy.

They still have the typical 2 - 3 inch mattress pad, without a mattress. So, don't expect a great night's sleep.

The blonde woman at the reception desk at 2000 on 21 June was not particularly friendly or helpful. Two of us from our group were having trouble getting on the wifi and she was not particularly helpful and had a bit of a bad attitude. Not what makes you want to return to the hotel. Needs some customer relations training as the representative of the hotel.

We ate in the Ferro restaurant and had pizza. About $33 (U.S.) for 2 people with Cokes) and nothing special. The servers were very friendly and nice though.

This is my favorite hotel in Oslo. This is primarily due to the friendly staff. The location is also great in "hip" area Grunerløkka, with great walks and outdoor areas close by. The hotel is just opposite "Mathallen" (Oslo food court). There is also a very nice Italian restaurant in the ground floor - Ferro.
I spend some 90 nights a year in Oslo and almost all of them in Scandic Vulkan.
Highly recommended

Room Tip: The rooms facing Grunerløkka and Mathallen has some very nice views

Room was hot and stuffy. Minimalist as with all Scandic hotels
No coffee and milk and kettle, but coffee lounge provided free if you took part in signing up
Gintare the front desk angel was the star of the trip wearing a crown and looking like a princess and very welcoming

Room Tip: There is a food court nearby that is adeqate as it is 10-15 min out of city. Avoid room facing road can be noisy

Starting on a positive note, the bed was comfortable and the shower was easy to use and maintain at a constant water temperature. The room was not too hot, unlike some Norwegian hotels we stayed at recently.

However, there is plenty of room for improvement. The furnishings are austere. None of the controls and switches in the room were installed straight. We stayed in one of the front rooms and despite double glazing, there was traffic noise from the main road all through the night. The curtains were made of a thin blanket material that made no impact on reducing the road noise.

My bath towel had lipstick on it, which I only discovered half-way through drying myself. There were no tissues provided; noted as I had a cold.

By the time I arrived at breakfast in the hotel restaurant around 6.40am, most of the food options I would normally have for breakfast were running-out: cereals, fruit and scrambled eggs. I have stayed at much better hotels.
