We chose the Vika Atrium due to its position being a short walk from both the Nationalteateret station and very close to Aker Brygge. We were not disappointed with friendly and smiling staff at reception to what was a really great buffet breakfast. We chose a Business Room as looked to have much more room and facilities and found this to be very comfortable. Had very quiet nights sleep, with our room looking over the Atrium itself. A really great hotel for seeing Oslo and getting around, with bus and tram stops nearby, the metro station very close and a short walk down to Aker Brygge to get a ferry to the Islands.

Room tip: Rooms looking into Atrium are great. Business Rooms are very good size for two people.

Nice and smiling welcoming, clean room, the breakfast is soooooo amazing! Short distance to Aker brygge and Karl Johan street. I appreciate the waterboiler, tea and coffee in my room. Free Wi-Fi of course.

I had never stayed at a Thon hotel before. I didn't realize that this was really one of these "minimalist" budget hotels. The room that I got was tiny. The AC ran--but failed to actually cool the room. No refrigerator, ice machine, or iron/ironing board. The bed was super soft--basically just a thin foam pad on top of a foam platform.

The front desk was severely understaffed. I had to visit the front desk three times--once at check in, once at check out, and once when they failed to properly log my parking payment (so that I ended up with a ticket on my car in the garage). All three visits to the front desk involved a 20+ minute wait because there was only one person working the desk--and, invariably, I managed to follow one of those "difficult" customers that needed excessive attention from the one person on duty.

The breakfast was pretty well stocked, however, the food was delivered in large quantities--so, it sat around long enough for everything to get quite cold.

On the good side, the location is right across from Aker Brygge!

Dear Nomad-RobG,

Thank you for reviewing your stay with us, we are grateful for all feedback.

I'm sorry that you got the impression that Thon Hotels is a chain of budget hotels. We have several different hotels, some luxurious and some in a minimalistic style.

Out of our 103 rooms, only 10 of them are singel rooms. As this is a busy period for us, we were unfortunately unable to upgrade you to a standard double rooms as you had booked a single room. But even though you stayed in a single room, all rooms have an iron and ironing board in the closet and a small minibar. Icemachines are located on every second floor, as mentioned in the hotel information brochure in the rooms.

Even though your stay didn't run as smoothely as expected, I do hope that you enjoyed your stay in Oslo in the lovely summer weather here!

Whishing you all the best, an welcome back!

Kind regards,

We booked into this hotel for 2 nights at the start of a 2-week touring holiday of Norway. Our first impression was disappointing. The hotel is on a fairly busy road and the long ramp to the front door was being repaired so we had to struggle up a number of steps with heavy bags and cases to get to the front door.
It soon became clear why the hotel is called 'Atrium' as there is a huge atrium area with a large number of tables and various business units or offices running from it. This is definitely a 'business' hotel and very functional.
The lobby is small and functional. The staff were excellent. We were given a room facing away from the echoing atrium but there was no view to speak of. The room was decent and clean.
The best point (apart from the breakfast, which was amazing) was the proximity (2-3 minute walk) to Aker Bryggen and the wonderful quayside restaurants and then easy access to the rest of the city.

Room tip: Not ground floor (or 1st floor, as the Norwegians have it) and away from the atrium.

The hotel is located near the city hall and the harbour. The staff is nice. The room is small but comfortable with a big smart TV.
Pillows are really soft as well as the mattress. The breakfast is the best thing. Lot of really nice food served till 10 am.
