Nice clean rooms and looked freshly decorated. Reception was behind the bar which was a little strange but a lively modern restaurant. Breakfast good but a little basic. Staff all foreign and hard to understand at times plus clearly didn't have much work on as were watching us eat waiting to clear the table as soon as cutlery put down

This hotel is in a great position with views of the sea & pier.
We were offered an upgrade to a sea view which was £10 which we accepted.
The room was comfortable and had all that you needed and the view to match.
Breakfast was delicious and plenty to choose from.
This is our 3rd stay at this hotel and it doesn't disappoint.

I’ve stayed at Eastbourne’s Hydro Hotel many times, mostly as directed by a hotel booking agency which arranges cheap accommodation.
For that reason, it provides good value.
Its accommodation is dated but perfectly adequate; expensive to maintain, I daresay. Breakfast is fine, mostly waiter/waitress service.
Its ambience is still that of an elderly persons’ nursing home, however, and staff are still more inclined to be miserable-looking than not. Forever thus.
That is a matter for its management and from its largely positive reviews, The Hydro may well have decided that ‘old school’ is what its residents prefer.
Nevertheless, during my most recent stay two members of staff actually laughed (aloud) during interaction with guests. It was as wonderful to hear as it was so completely unexpected (and unprecedented).
Smiling staff, noise and fun. Goodness me, there is life at The Hydro after all!
Well done.

NB to management.
We elderly guests enjoy a bit of banter, good humour and fun just as much as anyone else.

The walls were paper thin. You could hear snoring & TV and talking. There was no heating in the room when we arrived at 6pm on a cold day.The bed needed repacing very uncomfortable. No duvet just sheets and blanket. No heated towel rail in bathroom. Towels didn't dry. Smell of bleach.
Breakfast cereals were not on show it was put in a bowl in kitchen. I ordered Alpen --it was not Alpen. No freshly made Tea and coffee .They were in thermal flasks. Croissants very dry .Safety tape was all over stair and corridor carpets to cover damaged carpet. Not a good stay.
