This hotel is really convenient for the Winter Gardens if you're going to a conference or seeing a show. There is a view of the sea (just) and it is only a step to the beach. There is on-site parking if you need it but it is only a short, inexpensive taxi ride from the station. The decor is strongly traditional with confortable lounges. Despite the lift there are lots of stairs but guests with mobility problems are placed near the lifts. The rooms are a little tired and we were told that many are being refurbished in the autumn. We were very confortable with an enormous bed in our room. Breakfast was excellent and included some delicious porridge. We had evening meals in the restaurant but I am not cetain this is provided all the time or only for our large party. The owner and his friend did the waitering and they are a hoot! I would happily stay here again.

We booked this hotel to enable us to attend a family gathering on the basis of location, on-site parking, availability in peak season and, of course, price but having then read the reviews we did have some misgivings and wondered if we had done the right thing. In the event, we need not have worried !

Sure, some of decor is a bit dated, but then this is Eastbourne, not Chelsea-on-Sea. Ditto the bathroom but at least there was space to place washbags which is far more than can be said for many sexy modern 'boutique' hotels.

The front-of-house staff were most kind and very helpful, particularly the lady on reception. The acid test is how they react when things go wrong, in this case the complete failure of the lift. They passed with flying colours.

We must admit though that the breakfast was "an experience". Cooked fresh to order rather than frazzled in a buffet, the quantity was adequate and the quality very reasonable but the service was, how can one say, a bit "hit and miss".

Bottom line - would be go back again another time ? Yes.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced! My nan and I booked to stay at this hotel over a month ago and they emailed me on Monday 8th to say they had cancelled our booking as guests had asked to extend their stay and so a room wasn't available for us! I was left having to convince my nan it was still worth looking for somewhere to stay so we could spend some quality time together even though we are due to be staying in Eastbourne on Friday 12th! I emailed the hotel explaining thay surely they should be telling the customers they can't extend as there are no available rooms and not cancelling out booking especially via email and their response was only 'sorry for the inconvenience'. Worst hotel ever. Luckily we are staying in a much nicer looking hotel, better facilities, still right on the seafront and over £100 cheaper! Things happen for a reason but id say if this is how they treat their customers ur money is better spent elsewhere. U get better service abroad.

Very dated hotel. Hotel room was slightly depressing, bathroom shelf over basin way too deep, nearly smacked head when bending over to spit after brushing teeth. Bad design. All in all for the money we paid we were disappointed in the hotel, but I suppose we paid for the position of this place. We were able bodied and the 40 something stairs were no problem but seeing the lift out of order both days may have caused some grief for a few customers. Saying that the hotelier and desk staff were helpful and friendly. And the young lad in the dining area. The older chap made you feel uncomfortable when asking for a second oj.

Room Tip: If you want close to the seafront and don't mind paying more then this is a good point to stay, and If you want an oldy worldy hotel too but If you want modern then this is not for you, as you can probably see from the exterior pics.
