Love Wentworth, love the Rock. Staff very good. I've been returning to this pub, my favourite pub, for years. It serves Theakstons Old Peculier, what more is there to say! Called yesterday teatime for an after holiday treat. I was really looking forward to my visit and thought I'd treat myself to a meal, should have stuck to just a drink.
I ordered Chicken and Wild Mushrom pie. It looked good and was well presented. However the pie appeared to have been reheated and the pastry was rock hard, the contents of the pie were dry. It tasted ok. The chips were dull and the vegetables were virtually raw. The gravy was beef gravy and very thick, almost had to spoon it out of the gravy boat. I did eat the meal but on reflection I should have taken it back. My partners meal wasn't any better. They ordered lasagne which again appeared to have been reheated and was dry.The bottom line is I won't be having a meal in the Rock again, I'll stick to the Old Peclier. How can a lovely pub, so popular, in a fantastic setting get the meals so wrong.More
