During August I elected to walk Hadrian's Wall. Starting from Bowness on Solway, I selected this campsite as a good place to stop and camp for the first night.

On arrival the owners was very welcoming. The site provides hot showers, bathrooms a meeting room and power sockets for recharging mobile phones and the like and all this for £ 5.00. Its a small campsite with maybe room for 15 tents at most so best to call ahead and book a space in high season. The ground was dry, which after a night of really heavy rain was a godsend. On the site there are also a coupe of Glamping huts for those who want the camping experience but with beds. The folks in these seemed happy enough but I didn't go in one. Fresh water for drinking was available and the common room is open 24 hours a day and a nice place to meet other walkers and campers alike.

Less than 5 minutes walk further down the road is a great little out called the Drivers Inn. (see separate post) who provide good big dinners and a warm welcome to locals and travellers alike. It gets busy so book in here too for an evening meal.

All in All The campsite is a little diamond and really good value for the money.

Room Tip: All the camping pitches seems dry. Further from the entry gate is a little quieter with respect to traffic, but its all really quiet anyway.

We stayed in a cabin in the campground--twin beds not a real double bed, but okay for one night. A little cramped but weather was fine so we spent evening sitting outside and enjoying the mild temperature. Hosts were pleasant and helpful--we didn't have a car or supplies, so they gave us tea and coffee, and directed us to the nearby Drovers Rest for dinner.

We picked it because it was in the right location for our walk, just a short bit from the wall path.

Room Tip: I'm not sure whether ours was the only cabin, but it seemed to be, so book early if you want a cabin.

Just returned from a one night stay at Roman wall Lodges where we stayed in one of the Wigwams.

We are a family of four (children aged 8 & 6 ) and the children were delighted when they saw the accommodation. We walked into a nice little kitchen area with a kettle, toaster, microwave and some cutlery. Everything was very clean and tidy. The owner was very friendly and immediately organised a fire pit for us to use and orientated us to the site.

The beds were really comfy and made a very large sleeping area for us all. The facilities cabin was great with clean toilets, shower and even a bath!!!!!

We went up to the local pub the Drovers rest for our evening meal which was really good and brilliant value.

We would have loved to have stayed for longer and would if we could have. We will most defiantly be back for another longer visit.

Final stop on the Hadrians Wall walk. A smallish camping field, totally level, with plenty of picnic tables for those with no furniture. The facilities 'block' is a small lodge with two bathrooms (one with a bath) and a separate toilet, a common room and even a small library! Welcoming reception and only a couple of minutes walk from the local pub.
