Lounge area had tables free but needed to be cleared of empty glasses. Anyway we managed to sit around. After a time eventually tables were cleared. After three further requests able to put in an order for food and coffees and non alcohol drinks. Not want the coffees until the same time as the food. Guess what came first? Yes you guessed right. The coffees. This will tell you how long we waited for the food to arrive, 2 of us had to ask for another cup. Could not fault the food, but the fries never appeared. When went to pay the bill checked to make sure the fries had not been added, hadn't. Staff said that had not been put on, as service had been slow. So if staff noticed, confirms what saying. Anyway, done a Contact Us through the website so management can discuss matters with staff. It would have been nice to have got a reply but maybe if management don't care maybe that's why staff don't care either.

Would have given higher marks but building needs a little refurbishment, however I

Could not fault the food which was served on hot plates by a friendly waiter and the manager who came round to see if it was to our satisfaction,.

arrived in dunoon after spending two nights in rothesay. hotel is in great position overlooking the old ferry terminal. the building itself is very old so expect creaky floors and stairs. after checking in, we climbed the stairs to the second floor(there is a lift but we prefer to walk). the staircase is quite narrow and at first we thought a wee bit smelly, but it is very hot and there are no opening windows, so there is a lack of fresh air on the stairs. decent enough room, not huge, but serves the purpose, bathroom small but perfectly formed. nice lounge area on the ground floor giving you views across the water. dinner was very good, i had steak pie with plenty veg, chips and potatoes, and salad, which i thought a bit odd with steak pie, the wife had fish which was delicious she said(we both had fish on the second night which as the wife said was delicious.) didnt agree with the choice of veg with the fish, cabbage and some other green veg which didnt compliment the fish at all. thats the only little moan. breakfast was outstanding i thought, plenty of cereals juices, also porridge if you require. the cooked breakfast was well presented and delicious. i had just read a review that said the breakfast was cold and not good, so why not tell the girls who were serving breakfast instead of going home and writing a bad report. no complaints about the staff either from me. there is a restaurant on site called rio, but didnt try it, so cant comment. good value for the money.

Room tip: nice views of the water and ferry terminal from room 116.

I have visited Dunoon on a number of occasions, however staying here for the first time was not great. Not worth the £85 per night. Four poster bed looked lovely but was wobbly and creaky, floors very creaky, toilet difficult to get seated on due to weird placement. Breakfast cold and tasteless. No parking at actual hotel due to location but free parking across the road if you can get a space.

Room tip: Nice view of the harbour but noisy in the morning

This hotel I believe has been recently taken over by new owners who have a few basics to learn about running a hotel. Hotel needs refurbished, properly trained staff and much improved quality of food would be a great start. This hotel in all fairness is listed as a 3 Star rating but to be honest in its current situation shouldn't make even a 2 star. Come on regulator...do your business and protect the public.
Catering for bus tours at the expense of paying guests is the road to disaster, one or the other but difficult to do both!!
Things can be improved but without investment then this hotel will join the rest of the hotels in Dunoon and be closed up.
Local Council need to reinvigorate Dunoon, it's very run down
