We pitched up at the Chadwick unexpectedly and more or less by accident, having discovered that the original hotel we had booked for our weekend away had actually closed down without warning. We were fortunate that the Chadwick had a room available.
If you're looking for a contemporary, boutique hotel with high-fashion touches and an "exclusive" clientele, then look away now. But if on the other hand you want good old-fashioned hospitality at a reasonable price, with good food and friendly staff, then this is the place for you. The Chadwick is very much in the tradition of English seaside hotels and we loved it. Judging by the large number of regularly-returning fellow guests we spoke to, we're not the only ones to feel that way.
Our room may have looked as though the fittings and fixtures had been installed in the 1980s, but it was all clean, the room was spacious and had everything we needed. We found it a bit on the hot and stuffy side so we opened the windows.
We ate in the bar both nights. No nouvelle cuisine here, just honest, tasty meals at good prices. All the better for it.
And every member of staff that we came into contact with was unfailingly helpful, friendly and courteous. In fact, there was a good family atmosphere and general camaraderie between staff and guests.
In short, I'm glad our original hotel let us down because we really enjoyed our stay at the Chadwick and we may well return at some point.
