Dryfesdale Lodge Visitor Centre
Ranked #3 of 7 things to do in Lockerbie
Attraction details
Reviewed 2 July 2017

It is the small house in the graveyard area, just after you entered the gate. The visitor centre has 3 rooms, one will give you information about the history of Lockerbie, one other room dedicates to the nature reserve in surrounding, such as the endangered animal or plant, etc. and the other room is special for commemoration of the plane crash. There is a map shows where the crash took place and some other information. A kilt patchwork hangs on the wall symbolize all the victims and on a corner of the room there is a book with all the name and information of the victims. The staff is very friendly.

Lockerbie should not be defined by the air disaster with which it is synonymous. This Visitor Centre traces the history of Lockerbie and the surrounding region from the times of first settlement. Excellent displays and information and the attendant was both extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. Located at the entrance to the local cemetery and Garden of Remembrance, it is free and well worth a visit.

This small but interesting attraction is a must to visit if you're in the area.

It's free and on the site of the memorial gardens for the sad Lockerbie disaster.

The staff member there was very friendly and welcoming, as well as being informative. You can see the sad photographs of the aftermath of the Lockerbie disaster as well as details of other Local attractions including the Samye Ling Buddhist monastery.

The visitors' lodge is at the entrance to the cemetery where there is a memorial to those killed in the 1988 Lockerbie air disaster. The small visitors' centre rebalances the view of Lockerbie by telling its history from Roman times. Opposite is Eskrigg Nature Reserve which is well worth a visit. So, three interesting things to see all on the same site. Go!
