You can forgive the dated and broken fixtures and fitting maybe... but what is not forgivable is the lack of cleanliness in the bedrooms and also the hallways and corridors. Our room - stuck in the attic despite booking one of the cottages 8 months ago, the bathroom smelt of vomit, the bath panel was hanging off, the floors on the bathroom and bedroom were so dirty my feet were black walking from the shower back to the bed.. the walls and floors of corridors throughout the hotel were stained with drink and heaven knows what else. Complaints fall on deaf ears..such a shame ... if some money was spent on updating and redecorating this would be a lovely hotel, but frankly i beleive the owners dont care - there is enough one off traffic passing through for customer satisfaction not to be a consideration for this place. Truley awful, avoid at all costs.

Room Tip: if you cant get one of the cottages to the rear then don't stay, they are slightly better than t...

Business trip with a colleague, stayed one night and picked this place due to proximity to Manchester Airport and reasonable cost. The bar/restaurant area is lovely, the breakfast was really good and the staff were very helpful and polite. Full marks there. The rooms though were not good. Lots of stairs which is no real issue so long as you're reasonably fit and able. The general decor in the corridors is scruffy verging on appearing dirty. The room itself was clean and tidy but now very dated and in need of updating and decorating. My biggest issue was my bed - the mattress was fit only for the skip, it was like sleeping on a bag of broken bricks with virtually every spring visible, no idea how old it was but it should have been replaced. It's a shame as this place has loads going for it - if the rooms had just a bit of TLC then I'm sure the reviews would reflect this. I did advise the morning manager of the bed issue so maybe it will be addressed

Went in afternoon for a drink, staff welcoming and friendly , Hal has always been an excellent host, both here and at his previous post. The surroundings are pleasant and the menu looks reasonable, we will be back shortly to give it a try. The drinks are of good quality and reasonably priced.

Extremely poor service. TV didn't work properly, no hot water in the shower, unable to provide full English breakfast as promised. At our suggestion they agreed to fund breakfast for our party at an adjacent hotel. We asked that they phone ahead so we would be expected, this didn't happen until half an hour later. We asked to speak to the manager when we checked out who didn't even have the courtesy to see us. Would not stay again in a million years

Shabby and scruffy room which fails on all levels. Curtain pole hanging off wall, noisy bathroom fan, piping hot water out of shower which eventually cool down but be prepared to hang around. Once in bed and lights are out the room is illuminated by a bright green fire exit light above the door, which prevents you from actually going to sleep; on this point alone this room shouldn't be let out. Add in a solid matress and 4 rock hard pillows, a noisy air conditioning system, general high temperature of the room as had to shut windows to block out noise, more noise from next door water system at around 5am all of this meant that I didn't sleep a wink. I should have asked for a refund really but was never asked how my stay was on checkout and this I think sums up this establishment. First time i have stayed in a pub location and will not be doing so again.
