I really wanted to give this restaurant full marks. We visited for my wife's milestone birthday. During the reservation and the meal she was promised a drink on the house as a birthday gift. The staff were very nice and the service was great but when we received the bill we had been charged the 'free' drink promised. 7.95 for a glass of prosecco. Nevertheless as this was a nice to have I paid and didn't mention it. It was just a shame as my wife was made a fuss of then forgotten at the end and ordered a drink she didn't really want.

Regardless of this the service was good and the food was unbelievable. The chefs have amazing talents to mix flavours you wouldn't dream of. We had the 8 course taster menu which I'd loved to have tried again. Some of the dishes were some of the best I've had in a while. Hats off to the chefs. Some pictures are attached below. Worth a visit just keep in mind if it's a special occasion you may need to remind them...

I stayed here for one night on a business trip. The shower tray filled with water because the plughole was full of hair so I had to clear it. Not nice. Room was tired and in need of some TLC. The bar was ok but refused to serve us at 11 when we came back from dinner. Breakfast at the pub next door was good. At the price we paid, this was average at best.

We have had the pleasure of eating here tonight as a retirement gift and have had the most wonderful meal. The food, wine and service cannot be faulted. It was a very friendly relaxing atmosphere and we enjoyed every moment of it. The staff were very efficient and attentive. The flavours of the meal were something we will remember for a long time and we will definitely be returning.

What can I say? We were treated to an 8 course taster menu for Christmas. The food was absolutely excellent and, we both agreed, probably the best meal we have ever had. Whilst the portions are small the quality of the food and the presentation were amazing. The whole meal was a kaleidoscope of tastes and textures. There is an excellent wine list to suit all pockets; we settled on a superb NZ Sauvignon Blanc followed by a bottle of French Burgundy. The service is first class, attentive without being overpowering; special thanks must go to John and Joe, who were both exemplary. The decor is fantastic and reminiscent of New Orleans with its Franco-Cajun influence. On a more prosaic note the building is not particularly disabled friendly, although if you are staying over there is a chair lift to the upper floor. Accommodation is both clean and comfortable and breakfast at the Rose and Crown next door is excellent, although this building is not disabled friendly and would be extremely difficult to negotiate in a wheelchair. Overall a fabulous experience which we will be repeating soon 10 out of 10
