honest thoughts on the pub and reasons they could improve to help them make more money , such as making more room for kids to play ( parents would possibly stay longer) lowering prices ( people would but more )

Recently renovated, the gatehouse nownappeals to couples more than families. New seating and tables, done up to a high standard with a new menu and a good chef, it deserves to succeed. Gone is the kids play area inside and now it's very peaceful with no kids running riot around the pub.
These changes are very welcome and we will definitely be good customers again!

Shocking service and food! Waiting 30+ minutes for microwaved food, but at least the staff were attentive...

In this area there aren't many decent places to eat in terms of quality of food, choices, service and cleanliness of the venue. Here, the standard is above average but can still be improved.

I visited here for lunch and they do have the £10.99 for 2 meals unless it's fish and chips where you pay an extra £1 each. The menu has some good choices, such as yorkie wraps or a sandwich meal deal, but there is too much small print to read through with exclusions. It really needs to be more straightforward, in how much it costs and what's included.

There are other menus, a kids one and a senior one where there are 2 courses for £6.99 but are smaller portions. The service was very good; I didn't have to wait and staff were very helpful when we needed something.

The pub is quite big and the seating is very comfortable and spacious. In the area it's one of the better places to eat. I had a mushroom pie with mash and veg. The veg did look a little dried out and not as fresh as it could be, but the mash was lovely and the pie excellent. My father had gammon and chips and he said it was great and the chunky chips were cooked just right.

It's worth visiting because the food is good, and the service much better than many places nearby. The drinks are reasonably priced too with a selection of soft drinks from brands such as Fentimans and San Pelligrino. A nice pub with a relaxed atmosphere.
