Very surprised at the quality of the meals that were plated up today. The chicken liver starter was delicious. Mains were amazing and a decent portion size, but my ultimate favourite was the pudding. Cheese cake and the creme bulle were simply mouth watering. Compliments to the chef.

I visited Porto with my wife during a weekend in the Lake District. We'd been to the restaurant before, but this was our first time in a couple of years. The interior has been overhauled since we last visited - previously it was quite old fashioned downstairs, but now it is much more modern, with large padded seats running along the walls, and the kitchen is visible through a window. The staff were helpful and welcoming when we arrived.

To start, my wife had one of the specials - the mushroom bruschetta - whilst I had the twice baked cheese souffle with a spinach and truffle sauce. Both dishes were beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. My souffle melted in my mouth and the sauce had a good kick to it. We both ordered the same main course, which was the chump of lamb. The dishes were served in bowls, the lamb pink (we were asked if we wanted it pink or well done, and were advised to go for the pink), and a pot of potato dauphinoise for each of us. Our first impression was that the dish looked amazing, a rich jus with vegetables and pancetta surrounding the meat, but we felt the lamb was a little pink for our liking, but when we tasted it it was just spectacular. The meat was beautifully soft and cooked to perfection, and both the sauce and the potato were divine. Portions were also large, so when we finished we had no room for dessert, but had coffee while we finished our bottle of wine.

A superb meal, and we were surprised that it wasn't as expensive as we'd thought it would be. All in all, a wonderful meal.
