Owner description: Winner of the Legacy award ,Best Family Business 2017, Gold award for best attraction in the South-west 2012, Exmoor Zoo has become an ideal family day out. The zoo has established a good rapport with the North Devon community and offers a very hand on experience for all its visitors.Activities run throughout the day (every half hour in summer), you get to meet a bird eating spider, hold a snake, feed wallabies (under supervision), meet some of the zoos friendly furry animals and of course go to all the talks and feeding sessions (if you can)!Home to the “Exmoor Beast” (a pair of black leopards), Puma, Cheetah, Maned wolves, monkeys and lots of other unusual animals like Tamandua, Fishing cats, Tapir, Singing dogs and Binturong to just name a few! The zoo is a living place with changes all the time; no visit is ever quite the same.Useful information:• Disabled access (wheelchair provision and scooter hire)• Activities through out the day• Cafeteria• Children’s playground• Undercover picnic areas• Zoo trail.

I'm really not in the habit of leaving 5 star reviews but really felt this deserved it.

Not going to lie, we weren't expecting much due to past experiences with other "zoos" on other holidays. We went slightly out of season on a baking hot day, and it was fantastic, very quiet which meant not having to jostle for a spot to see the animals! All the animals looked well cared for and it was a really good touch to see the welfare signs explaining what was going on with some animals' treatment. There was a large range of animals, a lot I'd never even heard of, and we definitely learned a lot about each species. Despite it being baking hot, we still managed to catch a glimpse of most of the animals! Really great day out and not to be missed.

We booked a Keeper for the Day experience for my husband and myself to celebrate my 70th birthday. It was a wonderful day. All the staff were lovely but Alex, who was the keeper assigned to us, was wonderful. He was caring and kind but encouraging. We went in with so many animals - feeding, grooming, cleaning. We couldn’t really choose a favourite but the Bat Eared Foxes, Hairy Armadillo, Binturongs and New Guinea Singing dogs were towards the top! We had a great lunch and the staff in the restaurant were lovely. All in all a day we would recommend to anyone who loves animals and a zoo we would recommend even more now we’ve seen behind the scenes. A great place!

For £13.95 each you would expect to see more. There’s more birds here than anything else. An average day out but it only took us around an hour to walk around.

We are sorry you did not appreciate us. It is just possible to walk around in an hour (there are 14 acres to do this on though and 150 different species to see) but we have tried for the last 20 years to prevent anybody from doing just this. You would have had to be quick and decide that the enclosures were empty if you did not see anything. We run activities every half hour, offer refreshments, have a playground, provide trail quizzes and have some unique animals here that just cannot be seen anywhere else. I am sorry we could not capture your attention or interest we will have to continue trying harder.

Had a lovley day day. All animals look healthy and well cared for, yes some could do with more space but at least they are safe and warm with no fear of being hunted.
Staff very friendly and welcoming always will chat with you. Nice to see the animals get so excited when their keep comes. The wolf's were very excited got some lovley photos of them.
Nice to get hands in with the walabys.
You don't have to buy lunch you can take your own and use the under cover picnic area where you are joined by the peacocks and sparrows!

This place is well worth seeking out and is a great day out for young and old alike. It is a charming alternative to some of the larger attraction. The animals are delightful, fascinating and obviously well cared for with well sized enclosures. Even those who don't normally enjoy zoos will like this place.
