The rooms were like a 197Os hotel -mismatched and marked furniture, curtains missing hooks and stained, acrylic wash basins. It just isn't acceptable in 2021.Food was adequate but no salads or fruit. On the positive side, the staff were lovely and helpful and the evening entertainment was very good.

Our previous stay in Shanklin was in the town (at the top of the cliff). This time we wanted to walk out of the hotel onto the beach. Given the hotel rating and some of the previous comments, we had reservations about staying here. Yes, alot of the comments are accurate, the hotel has seen better days and needs some serious tlc.
But, what is also true is that the staff are great, always available and willing to assist, and the beach front location is fabulous. We may have felt slightly differently had we not had a room overlooking the beach, and I would definitely recommend paying the modest extra amount for the balcony and view.
Although due to covid the room wasn't serviced during our week long stay, this didn't matter to us, and we found the room clean, and the bed comfortable.
We didn't eat in the hotel other than breakfast on one occasion, as there are open-air eateries adjacent to the hotel (the weather was fine), but we had good reports of the dinner served at the hotel, and at a reasonable price.
Shanklin beach promenade is a great place for couples and families, a lovely sandy beach and enough to do to amuse for a few days. The walk into Sandown along the sea, returning on the cliff top path is enjoyable exercise and not too strenuous.
When the sun is out the beachfront is busy, which is great to see, but come evening it is quiet. We experienced very little noise at night, and the hotel bar below appeared to close at 11pm and wasn't obtrusive, even though the Euros were on!
Note that on the booking site we used it stated there was no hotel parking. This is incorrect: there is plenty of parking behind the hotel for a £5 refundable permit, which is a definite bonus as on-street parking is expensive.

Lack of TV Signal in bedroom the whole duration of visit was a disgrace, excuses from management at every turn. Whole hotel needs a serious update, plugs on wall not screwed on, light fittings at 45 degrees. The saving grace was the staff, serving school meal type food, plenty of it mind you. They were fantastic. If you go whilst no entertainment and bar closes at 9.45 take a good book to read.

I’ll talk about the positives first
Good friendly, young staff who tried to be helpful but didn’t achieve much due to the difficulties they had getting stuff done
Food good value, large portions and all you can eat style. Served by cheerful member of staff called James
Drinks what you expect price wise but you 20% off if you are a guest
Paid £5 deposit for car park which you get back on leaving. Because it was quiet, spaces were not an issue
Bed clean and neat
Room basic
Tea and coffee provided with help yourself if you needed more due to Covid and rooms not being cleaned on a daily basis
Same for towels and loo rolls. Ask at reception and they get this for you

Key card kept deactivating.
Shower so tiny, difficult to manoeuvre in and takes ages to get a warm flow. It’s definitely an in and out swoosh about. You don’t want to linger. Lots of gray grouting and limescale which is a bit off putting. And I hope you like your partner as door is thin and noise is shared!!
Some kind of black thing was hanging down from the ceiling, wire, mould, we were unsure
Room hotter than the sun. Lack of air even with windows open
Kettle seen better days and a bit grubby
The TV. Didn’t get a decent picture or sound the whole four days. Impossible to watch and the only thing we heard from other guests was the same issue and lots of complaints but nothing done despite lots of people informing the hotel of the problem.
WIFi rubbish so you can’t even watch anything on your phone. So unless you like to read or sleep, be prepared to stare at the wall. This is the most frustrating the stay as we did long days out to this lovely place but it ruined evenings once you want to settle down after a long day
It took a long time to download the pics just to show the room
A big overhaul of TVs and WiFi needed to keep this place somewhere to come back to. I would not return and that is a shame as it could be a lovely hotel to stay with a few changes here and there.
