Just spent 5 nights here. Had previously spent one night last year when passing through and decided to return for longer stay. Was not disappointed. Lovely vintage superior room (Room1) with separate sitting area, lovely bathroom with bath and shower and separate bedroom - also with TV. Was nice to be able to relax and watch Wimbledon in the sitting room before going for dinner. Room 1 overlooks the main street which we selected as we like to see the biz of the town but there are plenty of other rooms at the back if you prefer that. Nice tea/coffee facilities in the room with home made biscuits which were refreshed every day. Previously stayed in Room 12(?) which is a standard room also at the front and is very nice.
Excellent breakfast with choice of quality yoghurt, fruits, muesli, croissants etc and various cooked options - all delicious. Also had dinner on 3 nights of our stay which was first class. Nice bar and separate seating area if you do not want to eat in the dining room. Also nice to reax in the front lounge for coffee/liqueurs etc after the meal.
Pickering as usual is great , not only as a stopping place in itself with quirky shops, cafes etc but it also has the steam railway and is near many interesting places worth a visit such as Helmsley (14 miles away), Grosmont (can go by steam train) and of course York.
If you are in Pickering, this is THE place to sat for a relaxing and luxury break.

Room Tip: There may be some noise with rooms at front if that bothers you. Rooms at back will be quieter.

We booked a five day stay for a group of 14 celebrating 50 years since we met at university. We have been meeting for several years for a walking holiday but it is changing into a limping and eating break for many of us .

The staff at the White Swan coped excellently with our requirements from our first enquiry through to departure: from changes in numbers and arrival dates to quickly sorting out minor problems like a slow running shower drain and a sticky door key.

As a large group we had The Bothy ( a separate room across the courtyard) as a private dining room and lounge and both dinners were excellent . Breakfasts were delicious as well . Meat is from The Ginger Pig and was exceptionally good.

We stayed in the new rooms at the rear of the hotel which are large and comfortable, though the lower rooms (built into the slope) were hot during a very rare English heatwave.

This was an excellent place to stay and we would come again as a group and as couples.

Pickering is a charming market town and makes an excellent base for walking and exploring the North York Moors

I was really excited to stay in The Luxury Room at The Swan Inn. It was a really average room. We stayed for my partners 50th birthday, they were really accommodating swapping our evening meal for lunch time. But the room was really disappointing, needs a lick of paint. No room upstairs for our luggage so that stayed down stairs on the sofa.
Sleeping upstairs and running downstairs to use the bathroom, also showering downstairs and changing in the living area but using the mirror and dressing table upstairs. Really awkwardly laid out, the beige sofa was also discoloured.
Not worth the money.

We stayed in a two level retreat room out the back of the hotel and it was a lovely escape. Not hugely excited by the decor but that's just personal taste. Probably the bed head needs replacing so the fabric doesn't show wear marks!! Divine big bath but sadly the bubble bath product doesn't really bubble even with large amounts of it! Very warm welcome and farewell from Amanda (we hope that's her name). The supplies in the Bothy (which is a fun communal lounge area with beautiful country shooting images) need to be replaced more often. Front bar is really sweet but pretty squeeze on a busy Saturday night. Generally all staff are a credit to the place but one fellow in the bar seemed to struggle to rustle a smile. As to the food, almost ten out of ten. All the meats (lamb, steak, pork belly and pork tomahawk) that we devoured over the two nights were brilliantly cooked and tasty). The only comment was that the cheese portions were stingy when compared to the excellent portions for the main courses. Not that I needed more food but the plate looked really lacking. Breakfast options are wide ranging and simple but really tasty. Kedgeree was a fun option! House champagne very nice. All in all it was a very happy long weekend at The White Swan. So much to see in the surrounds but Pickering itself seemed to have little to offer. Just as well you don't have to leave the hotel to dine - in fact you'd be missing excellent food if you do.

An olde type hotel but we stayed in the new buildings to the back of hotel good size rooms clean and modern . A good choice for breakfast also delicious food at dinner they were very good at catering for the children and service was first rate . They made our stay very memorable will definitely recommend it .

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of hotel were a good choice for our large family twelve in total .
