This is the second time we have stayed at the white swan. The inn has a policy of paying when you check out so be very careful if you're ordering meals or running up a bar tab! You can opt to pay for these separately but you will need to inform them beforehand.

Breakfast is a standard £20 and dinner is £40 each if you are staying in the inn, so it's probably advisable to get the full menu of starters, main and dessert if that's the case. At least that was what I was told by the head waitor.

Overall, though you get what you pay for. This pub is ideally located in the middle of Pickering with car parking. It is a nice pub though it can be noisy if you have the room above the bar. Lol The room was also a bit cold. Overall, many of these places will have lost revenue especially due to covid, so just glad to give them a bit of business.

Room tip: Pick a room in the carpark rather than one in the pub directly above the bar.

We had a wonderful New Years Eve stay here. Our accommodation in one of the hideaway rooms was lovely, very peaceful and toastie warm. The evening meal was outstanding, delicious food beautifully presented. We enjoyed the live music and the drinks accompanying the food. Some great fireworks finished the night- perfect way to celebrate NYE. As others have said, one of the main joys of this place is the friendliness of the staff. The two women serving dinner last night were amazing! So professional and friendly and provided a great service to all the diners. They were working again for breakfast this morning, and were still smiling, friendly and happy. Would really recommend this place - a Yorkshire gem!

Room tip: Hideaway rooms very quiet

We are local to this place and eat here regularly and even stay here for a few days at a time. ( we have temperamental indoor cats who we can’t leave for long) . The staff are exemplary, the rooms beautiful and the food fantastic. I invariably have the fish and chips because the batter is so crisp and no fatty residue on the plate. Wine menu extensive. I love this place, for its understated ambience, peaceful restfulness but its strongest attraction are the wonderful, helpful and professional staff.

Room tip: The parking in this busy little town is ideal

My partner & I decided on a last minute night away last Sunday. We looked at several other (better known) hotels on line, but opted for the White Swan and we were delighted with our choice.

The room was excellent, with the nice touches that make a difference (fresh milk for tea making, complimentary umbrellas to borrow - we were in the courtyard). The food in the restaurant was first class. Well presented without being OTT, superb flavours and great service. And all this on a Sunday night, where (let’s be honest) many hotels don’t have the main chef available.

We had a dinner, bed & breakfast deal which was really good value - there are places in the region you can pay half as much again and have a less good experience.

To cap everything, all of the staff were amazing. Capable, attentive to detail, and welcoming. Some establishments may have struggled to bounce back post Covid, but not this one. We will definitely return.

What a great find! Perfect location and fabulous place. We had one of the barn conversion rooms which was brilliant with parking right outside. Furnishings are of a very high quality and rooms had underfloor heating which was toastie warm considering the sub-zero temperatures. Very quiet too which was lovely and very rare for a lot of hotels. Roaring log fires in each of the bar area rooms was also very nice too. The hotel staff were absolutely fantastic and very attentive and responsive to request, again a rarity these days. If you are looking for a relaxing break in the Pickering area you should look no further than the White Swan. We can’t recommend it highly enough.

Thanks to all of the staff for a fantastic weekend.

Room tip: Good parking availability at the hotel (free) ideally situated right on the Main Street, but rooms are so quiet.
